Q&A: Chris and Laura Mann Discuss Their Home Renovation
Chris and Laura Mann knew what they wanted in a home, but they just couldn't seem to find it. They decided that renovation was the way to go at the beginning of 2016, and our team helped them find the perfect home to use as a starting point. Months later, their vision has come to life. Scroll through to see some before and after photos and learn more about their renovation journey!
What made you decide that renovation was the best path for you?
We found a neighborhood that we liked. However, it was hard to find the quality of house we desired that fit within our budget. Renovating gave us the opportunity to buy a house with great potential in the neighborhood we wanted.
What was most important to you when renovating your home?
It was important for us to make renovation decisions that would not only appeal to us, but decisions that would appeal to future buyers as well.
Where did you get your inspiration?
Spending time pre-renovation walking through the home really inspired our direction. Once we had an idea in mind, we then were further inspired by looking online (Houzz, Pinterest, etc), shopping at stores and discussing our ideas with friends and family.
What is your favorite thing about your home after renovation?
Our favorite aspect of our home after the renovation is the overall flow and function of the house. We removed old cabinets that were cutting off the kitchen to the family room, and it really made a big impact. The house has a nice, open floor plan now. In addition, we converted the old, small dining room into a mudroom with a washer and dryer, which also allowed us to make our pantry larger. This was a welcoming update that truly helped the functionality of the house.
Do you have any tips for anyone who's planning to renovate in the future?
One tip we learned is to do a thorough walk-thru before drywall is put up to see if there are additional outlets you want installed, any light switches moved, additional recessed lighting installed, and/or pocket doors added. All are more difficult and time consuming for the contractor if done after drywall is installed and could even end up costing more money in the end for the homeowner.
