Other Fun-ness

Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Holiday Party

December 14th 2-6 pm

We are so happy to be hosting another party for this wonderful group.  This event is open to the public, if you would like to learn more about RMFW.  Food and drink is for members only on Saturday, though.  If you've thought about joining a fiction writer's group check out RMFW for more info.

Silent Reading Happy Hour

December 21st 3-4pm

This event is the brain child of one of our customers, Crystal Preston-Watson. She had seen Silent Reading Happy Hours taking place in other parts of the country and wanted to be able to do this in Denver.  We love reading and we love happy hours so we are game!  While we can't guarantee complete silence this first go 'round, those who do participate will receive 1/2 off drink specials.  Mark your calendar for some silent sanctuary.

Author Event

Reading and book signing with Darin Gibby

Dec. 21st  5-7 pm

A thriller about wine!  The Vintage Club is a group of scientists who work secretly to uncover the elixir of life by researching wine.  A murder throws them all off the path of their quest until the main suspect can protect his family and conquer his internal demons.  Rich with Christian wine symbolism and explorations of nanotechnology, this book will have you on the edge of your seat.  May as well reach for your wine while you're there.

Holiday Book + Wine Pairing

January 13th 7:30 pm

And by wine we mean sherry.  And by book we mean book.  Both are something worth savoring over the holidays.  John Saturnall's Feast by Lawrence Norfolk is a culinary historical novel (just when you thought historical novels couldn't get any better).  We've paired it with Alvear's 2011 Pedro Jimenez de Anada sherry, just given a 100 pt. rating by the Wine Advocate!  Now all you need is a fire and a pair of fuzzy slippers.  We don't provide those, unfortunately, but we will provide the Book + Wine Pairing night.  Chat with others who have read the book and enjoy the sherry on special.

Small Business Saturday

Thank you for making this our best day ever!  Our 20% off sale on local author titles was a success.  It was like shopping local squared.

Phil Goodstein on First Friday

Phil Goodstein (bottom right) visited us on First Friday for a chat about... well, everything North Denver.  Not only did he promote his new book about the Lumber Baron Inn but he let us in on so many other North Denver secrets.

Winter Market and Holiday Fair

BookBar participated in this annual event at Valdez Elementary (top left). We brought a sampling of our books and merchandise to you and had so much fun off-site.

Jingle and Mingle in Berkeley

Meanwhile, back at the shop, Jingle and Mingle was happening in Berkeley (top right and bottom left).  We hosted a Santa story time and were visited by Berkeley the Snowman.  And, yes, that's coffee Santa is drinking ;)

Local Author Showcase

Our first monthly Local Author Showcase kicked off with Phil Goodstein (again!), local legend Dick Kreck, J.T. O'Conner and Dr. Jim McCartney.  If you didn't get a chance to stop by, we have signed books left.  These make great gifts, of course!
