CLARK HAS DONE IT AGAIN in the LEXUS ECO CHALLENGE!!!
The Cricket Busters, a student team in Ms. Evans-Bye’s Environmental GIS class, has won $10,000 in the Lexus Eco Challenge. Congratulations to Fatma, Manuk, Karo, David, Khachik, Sipan, Aren, James, Cynthia & Devon. The Cricket Busters are just getting started. They still have a chance to win up to $40,000 MORE by the end of the year. You can help them out by tweeting about edible insects using #SaveAFishEatABug. Ask a Cricket Buster how you can compete in the Lexus Eco Challenge next year!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MOCK TRIAL TEAM! For the first time in Clark’s history a team will be advancing to the semi-final round of this county-wide competition.  Our team is one of the 16 of 91 schools advancing!  Mock Trial Students as well as Clark Staff celebrated at the Cybraray last Friday during snack to recognize the students’ hard work and achievement.  Congratulations to ALL members of Clark’s Mock Trial Team!

CLARK WINS GOLDEN BELL AWARD! The Golden Bell Awards, now in its 36th year, promotes excellence in education and school board governance by recognizing outstanding programs and governance practices of school boards in school districts and county offices of education throughout California.  Clark Magnet High school was awarded the Golden Bell and we congratulate the administration, faculty, staff and students on this prestigious award, once again leading the way for others.  WAY TO GO CLARK!

PTSA Honorary Service Award (HSA) Nomination:
Every year at Clark, the PTSA recognizes deserving parents, teachers, school administrators or community members for their outstanding service! Now is your opportunity to nominate someone for this important recognition. Forms are available in the office or  email.  Submit your recommendation to the Clark PTSA mailbox in the school office, or email Amy Taylor at lincolnhelper@sbcglobal.ne t no later than December 17, 2015 
 On your recommendation, include the following:

The HSA will be presented at the PTSA Founders Day on February 25, 2016. 

Please help the Red Cross and your fellow students save lives this holiday season by donating blood at Clark's Blood Drive on December 1st. You must be 17 years old or older to donate and you must submit a signed consent form (even if you are already 18) by November 20th. The sooner you sign up, the better chance you have of being scheduled at your preferred time. See Mr. Blattner or any Red Cross club member for details. There is no greater gift you can give than the gift of life.

TOY DRIVE: There is still time to help a Senior and Children in Need! Inesa Navasardyan is hosting a Toy Drive for underprivileged kids for her senior project. Donations will continue through this week. Please bring new/used toys (in good condition) to the box located by the astronaut. All donations are greatly appreciated...Thank you! 

Thank you to 5th period classes who donated clothes to the Malala Fund clothing drive. We collected 729 pounds of clothes and accessories that will be sent to Schoola and be resold. Forty percent of the profits from these sales will go towards the Malala Fund to help further educational opportunities for girls in Africa and the Middle East.
Special thanks to the following classes who donated more than 10 pounds of clothing each: Mr. Blattner ,Ms. Mikaelian (Armineh,)Mr. Ghavam, Mr. Doom, Mrs. Pettegrew (the most clothes, with 204 pounds!), Ms. Vardanyan, Ms. Kassakhian, Mr. Axelgard, Miss Thomsen, Mrs. Marcucci, Ms. Melville, Mr. Zamlich, Mrs. Evans-Bye, and Mr. and Mrs. Davis!!!


All males 17-18 years of age: Under federal law, virtually all men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. However, the Selective Service System now accepts early submission of registration information by 17-year-old men. The Agency holds their registration information and automatically enters their data into the system when they turn 18. If you don’t register, you will not qualify for federal financial aid (FAFSA), Cal-Grants, job training, or State/Federal jobs. Go on-line @ www.sss.gov. 

All Spanish Honor Society members need to report to Mrs. O'Gara's room (room 5304) during lunch TODAY, 11/30 to discuss continued membership in the program and election procedures. 

CSF TUTORING IS HELD every Wednesday/Thursday in Mr. Kursinski's room, 5303, during enrichment. NO MORE PAPER SIGN UPS! California Lutheran University: All seniors California Lutheran University is having Fall Auditions for their Performing and Visual Arts - Winter Auditions February 6, 2016. This Friday, December 4th at 5:30 pm join us at the La Crescenta Library for crafts, music and Christmas Tree Lighting-they will need about 10 volunteers to work in pairs and two shifts-helping with crafts for younger children, beverage station, and a puppet show, etc. Come see Mrs. Bondy for the forms you need to fill out TODAY and take them to the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd, La Crescenta (Marta Wiggins) ASAP and before Friday,12/4! This Saturday, December 5th, 10 am to 12 pm at Two-Strike Park join us for an appearance by Santa Claus, a toy giveaway and SNOW! Then Saturday evening head down to Montrose for the Annual Christmas Parade! Come see the flyers in the main office.

Montrose Christmas Parade this Saturday, Dec. 5. The volunteer hours are from 5:00PM to 10:30PM. Give the time you can – you are not required to be there the entire time. Meet at Citibank Community Room, behind Citibank, 2350 Honolulu Avenue, Montrose. Make sure you sign in and out at the volunteer booth/table to get credit for your hours. Come sign up with Mrs. Bondy MONDAY!

Why I want to visit Armenia Essay Contest - “Visit Armenia-It Is Beautiful” is proud to announce its Essay Contest #4. All high school students are encouraged to participate! Email your registration information to Ara@visitarmenia.org.  See Mrs. Bondy if you’d like to read more about it – then go on their website - www.visitarmenia.org.

Girls Lacrosse is being offered by the County of LA-Dept. of Parks and Recreation-“Kids in Sports” for girls age 14 and younger – Cost is $50 and includes uniform. League begins 1/16/16 – 2/7/16. Ryman Arts offers Free Challenging, College-Level Studio Art Classes to talented and motivated high school students. Classes are held on Saturdays from 9:00 AM -12:30 PM or 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM at California State University, Fullerton or on Sundays at Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles. Each accepted student receives a full scholarship which includes tuition, art supplies and field trip(s). To apply, Visit: www.rymanarts.org. You will need to send by mail two graphite pencil drawings done from observation. Draw from what you see in real life. You cannot copy from a photograph or a screen. Do not submit cartoons or other artwork done from imagination. See Mrs. Bondy for the application and all the details. Varsity Tutors holds a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest for students age 16 and older - write an essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage are able to vote via social media for submitted entries. The top five entries with the most votes are reviewed by Varsity Tutors at the end of the month and one winner is subsequently chosen to receive the $1,000 college scholarship. The next essay prompt is listed. 1ST Annual Upcycled Holiday Craft Contest: Upcycling is creative reuse of materials that would have otherwise been thrown away! Save our environment! All grades can enter. Take a picture of yourself with your holiday craft and tag Facebook; @MyGlendalePW beginning 12/1 – 12/28 by 5:00 PM . List what materials were repurposed along with your information (full name, grade, and school). The tagged pictures that meet the judging criteria will then be posted on Facebook in the appropriate grade bracket picture album. The picture that has the most Likes wins!!! Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project (KSCPP) is hosting their 9th National Essay Contest for all students’ grades 9-12. First Place-$500; Second Place-$200; Third Place-$100; Honorable Mentions- $50. You will be reading the book they provide: “Chung Hyo Ye, Tales of Filial Devotion, Loyalty, Respect and Benevolence from the History and Folklore of Korea”. For your essay, choose from only one topic: 1. Select up to four stories and discuss how they impressed you and why. OR 2. How did this book affect you? Deadline for either online or offline submissions is January 3, 2016 (before we return from Winter Break)! LA Clippers Foundation Stay in School Scholarship Program is offering six awards in the amount of $4000 each.Applicant criteria: Academic achievement, extracurricular activities, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, and a 300-word essay on the topic, "Why college is important to me".
