For two weeks, Casa Gabriel has been blessed by Necia Clare, a photographer who volunteered her time and talents to come to Ecuador and teach photography and visual storytelling with the boys. Necia's classes, which included both technical and artistic aspects of photography, were something completely new and different. We have always encouraged the boys to follow their talents, providing them with art and music classes when they have shown a strong interest. However with photography, the boys have not had much previous access to cameras, aside from camera phones. Throughout the classes, the boys showed differing levels of interest and confidence, yet they all participated. At the end of the class, Necia (with the help of Admin Assistant Sonnet and ministry friend/art teacher Rachel) put together a photo exhibition to display the boys' work. Although initially shy, when the boys arrived at the photo exhibit, they had dressed up and were excited for people to see their work. It was amazing to see their eyes light up when friends from Youth World came just to see their photos, commenting on their beautiful/humorous/thoughtful work. One of our goals at Casa Gabriel is to create an environment and setting where the boys can explore and find their God-given talents and gifts and then help them grow in these areas. With this photography class, the boys were able to gain confidence through learning a new skill and are now able to see the world in a different way. Who knows, we might have a photographer in our group? One thing is for sure, all have been exposed to a fantastic new experience with many opportunities for growth.
A big thank-you to Necia, and to all of you who support this ministry and make it possible to give former street boys a chance at discovering their God-given talents and incredible worth.

Fun times during photography class on top of Mount Pichincha. The boys shot lovely and creative photos of the view and various animals.
The successful photo exhibition at the Youth World office.
