Employment opportunities at WDV

 
WDV is looking for two Women's Engagement and Empowerment Officers to join our team and deliver Women's Empowerment programs.

Both roles are part-time. One is 0.7FTE for 9.5 months, the other 0.6FTE for 11 months.

An exciting new peer program for women with disabilities is coming to Eastern-Metro Melbourne

 
WDV is offering the Our Right to Respect! Peer Education program to women with a disability. The program offers opportunities to explore respectful relationships, experiences of being a woman, and women's and disability rights.
 
The program will run over four weeks in two locations:
- Murrumbeena - 28th February - 21st March (in conjunction with Glen Eira Council)
- Ringwood - 9th - 30th March

Casual position available for women with intellectual disabilities as peer educators
 


Do you have an intellectual disability?
Would you like to help other people to learn about respectful relationships?
Do you live, work or study in the City of Yarra or the City of Darebin?

CoHealth need Peer Educators to work on the Sexual Lives and Respectful Relationships program.

There is an information sheet with information on how to apply.

Call for expressions of interest: join the DARU Governance Group
 


Applications are sought from interested Disability Advocates in Victoria to join the Disability Advocacy Resource Unit Governance Group.
 
The group meets regularly to ensure that DARU runs effectively. Applications are encouraged from people with disability and also advocates from Rural and Regional Victoria. Expressions of interest close Monday, 13th February 2017 at 5pm.

Get informed about NDIS plans - join a free webinar
On Tuesday 28 February at 2.00pm the NDIS will be hosting a webinar about developing and starting your first plan. If you have questions about getting ready for your planning conversation or want to hear about how you may best implement your plan, this is the webinar for you! Register for the NDIS webinar.
 
WDV’s TIP:
When you speak to the NDIS about your plan, you don’t have to do it over the phone. Even if they call you, you can say that you want to meet face to face to talk about your plan. It is your choice.
 
Are you new to the NDIS?
The NDIS has made videos to help you at all stages of your NDIS journey. If you're about to join the Scheme, or are already a participant, find out how to access the NDIS, how to develop your plan, and how to start your plan.

 


New powers for Disability Services Commissioner


 
The Victorian Government has committed to giving more power to the Disability Services Commissioner to investigate abuse in disability services. See the Commissioner's media release.

Victorian Government launches new website for women


 
The Victorian Government's new website has information specifically for women. It focuses on 4 key areas:
  1. Family Violence Prevention Provides information for women and community service groups who work to prevent family violence. There is also details of support services for men.
  2. Gender Equality
  3. Stories Read inspiring stories of women achieving great things and overcoming obstacles to get there.
