Whether you like it or not methodology affects every developers' life; in their crudest sense methodologies tell us how to build computer systems by adhering to certain rules and processes.Twelve years after its inception most developers, and ever growing ranks of managers, have heard of Agile - some have even used it in practice! The modern landscape of methodologies is more than a two horse race between Waterfall and "insert your favourite Agile methodology", we also have Kanban, RUP, spiral, XP, and many more; on top of this many of the aforementioned methodologies are compatible with others, allowing teams to compose their own development models. For example many Agile teams also use Test Driven Development (TDD) and a growing number BDD (Behavioural Driven Development).
This year at Devoxx UK we aim to provide answers to some of the following questions:
What's the future for Agile?
Do functional languages require new methodologies?
What alternatives are there to Agile and Big Upfront Design?
What's new in testing methodologies?
Is your team happy?
We'll also have talks on leveraging more from your IDE, patterns for testing and refactoring your code, and continuous delivery.
- James McGivern
