A Time to Talk and a Time to Listen

On Wednesday night, AUGUST 10, 2016, a COMMUNITY gathering will take place at the Sunrise Community Center (formerly The Black Cat Cantina).  â€œA Time to Talk, A Time to Listen” is the theme and the program. It will be moderated by Bishop Steven Holt, and the community will be given an opportunity for a safe place to express themselves and to hear from others in relation to the racial tension that has been sweeping the nation.

The last event was attended by law enforcement, city government officials, social workers, and community members (African American, white, and Hispanic) who participated in the process. The racial climate in our country has affected us all. We want to assist in bringing healing to our community.  Please pray that Christ would BE the bridge AND the bridge-builder!

A Time to Talk and a Time to Listen...there were tears, there was honesty, there was pain, there was tension, there was understanding, and there was a commitment to continue the conversation...to be continued Aug. 10th!
FreeWay 418 partnered with Ambassadors Football--an international organization with soccer players and coaches from around the world--to teach kids in Rockwood how to be safe from traffickers (and others who would exploit them).  They did this using a game of exercises/activities with soccer balls and small discussion groups.
One of our interns with the Rockwood CDC this summer is Stephanie Eichentopf, a student of Multnomah Bible College.  One of her main tasks is to help adapt and contextualize the material we were taught in in the seminar Interconnecting Your Community this past May by the WorldView Center.  We have been trying it out on some of the other interns and getting their input as well.  I am very excited about how we will use this to help build bridges of understanding in Rockwood.

In October 2014, and again in January 2015, we informed you of the "Black Cat" saga (you can refresh your memory at http://imccracken.net/prayer-letters-knee-mails/ (scroll down to the relevant dates).  That story has had MANY chapters written that have gone back and forth and kept us on the edge of trusting in God.  The closing date is set to happen soon (so it is not yet a "done deal") but it looks like the city will buy the building, and the Rockwood CDC will manage it in ways that will continue to benefit the community of ROCKWOOD. Praise God together with us and thank you for your continued prayers.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

*  11 accepted Christ and several were baptized during the recent Discovery Bible Study outreach effort we asked you to pray about in our last update!!!  Pray for good follow-up and growth!

*  Our monthly support has dropped another $300/month as of July.  We have not said anything about our financial situation in a while but we do need to ask people to pray with us.  MANY THANKS to all who are already giving!!  MANY THANKS to all who pray!!  We greatly appreciate you!!

* William goes back to Greece with Kyle in September.  Kyle will be in his 3rd year of Bible College, and William will do the one-year program.  Please pray for their transition, relationship with the Lord, and financial provision.

*  Pray for greater unity among the churches in Rockwood.  This is a HUGE spiritual need!  Seems we take one step forward and then two backward.

* Pray for growth of the men in Scott's discipleship "huddles", and for the two boys he is currently mentoring.
