News Update - January/February

The New Year is well underway, and we trust that you are enjoying the great summer weather that we have been having. This month we are focusing on SAFETY and EMERGENCIES. Our children will have the opportunity for a visit with staff from the local Fire Station. (See the details in our "Up coming Events" section below). We will be organizing First Aid courses for our new educators, and those needing to update their certificates.
Are You Ready?
Do you have an evacuation plan in the event of a fire?
Do you know where to find a first aid kit & what to do in a medical emergency?
Where is a safe place to go if you are experiencing an earthquake or severe storm?
Do you have access to enough food & water to last 3 days if disaster should strike?
Have you done drills & role-play with the children in your care to prepare them as best you can for an unexpected event?

Staff & Educator News
Haere mai!!
A warm welcome to our two new Programme Coordinators. Ruta (right) and Ritu (left). We have enjoyed seeing you around the office in the past few weeks, and we are sure you will enjoy getting to know our Educators and children. Thank you for joining us as Home2grow continues to grow to meet the needs of our community.
Important Reminder

A reminder that new health and safety regulations are in place and  educators will check hazards every day and will assess and mitigate dangers when going on outings. If you require more information, please discuss with your Programme Coordinator.

If you are due for a fire drill,  get the kids to listen to this song and then talk about get out-stay out and fire safety.

Please check the batteries of your smoke alarms monthly and change them at least once a year. If you moved house, or are new with Home2Grow Childcare, or just misplaced your escape plan, please note: Have an escape plan.

Prepare and practice an escape plan ( we do this every 3 months with each child in care as part of our programme)
  • Make sure that everyone knows the sound of the smoke alarm and what to do if a fire occurs.
  •  Identify a primary escape route out of every room, then pick a secondary route in case the first  is blocked by fire.
  •  Ensure doorways are not obstructed.
  •  Select and indicate a meeting place outside of the home (eg the letterbox).
  •  Call 111 and ask for the Fire Service from your or a neighbour’s home or mobile phone.
