Your support through COVID-19 Sustains Us

Dear Supporters,

While hope for normality is on the horizon, COVID-19 continues to cause concern and anxiety for most of us as we stay vigilant with social distancing, work from home, home schooling and limitations on travel.  Back in March, the risks of exposure really hit home for the CFR team when an individual staying at a guest house in Chungking Mansion, Block A was confirmed positive on March 16th.  Out of an abundance of caution and holding as our highest priority the health and well-being of our beneficiaries, volunteers and staff, we had to temporarily close our Centre.  We were overjoyed to reopen on April 6th after receiving confirmation that the management of Chungking Mansions had improved safe-guarding procedures that are now the new normal.

The closure of our Centre put a lot of pressure on our ability to deliver direct assistance to our clients, but we persevered with work-arounds to distribute food vouchers, masks, sanitizers and other immediate support to our beneficiaries.  You can read about Jonnet's and Jeff's insights into the challenges for asylum seekers and refugees in this SCMP article about how Hong Kong Refugees are ignored in pandemic relief measures.

In April alone, we distributed masks, sanitizers, food vouchers and other supplies to over 550 beneficiaries that included families in our milk&diapers program as well as families receiving education support for their school-age children.  We were very grateful to partner with Save the Children to address the digital divide experienced by our beneficiaries with respect to accessing devices for home schooling.  We helped 30 families receive new laptops with pocket WiFi and data sim card donated by Henderson Development Anti-Epidemic Fund and an additional 17 families received laptops generously sourced and donated by members of Rotary Club Quarry Bay II.

Thank you for your ongoing support.  As the situation remains uncertain and our kitchen operations continue to be disrupted, please help us continue to serve this community by donating food vouchers and/or money that we will direct to the highest needs.  Additionally, with summer nearly here and with many of our clients living in small sub-divided homes, one of their basic needs for coping with the heat are electric fans.   Please DONATE or reach us via Email or Facebook if you are able to assist us any way.

With much love and thanks,

Jonnet and the CFR family
