South Carolina Chamber of Commerce Elects 2014-15 Board of Directors
Mikee Johnson of Cox Industries to chair

   
   

The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce its newly elected Executive Committee and Board of Directors for 2014-15. The board of statewide business leaders took office on October 1, 2014.
 
Meet Chairman Mikee Johnson -  Johnson is president and CEO of Cox Industries, based in Orangeburg. A manufacturer of pressure-treated wood products, Cox is a third-generation family-owned and operated business with 14 facilities in 10 states. Led by Johnson, Cox Industries provides scholarships to employees’ children through the Cox Foundation, awarding $580,000 since 1986. The company is also involved with Habitat for Humanity and has built a house every fourth quarter for the past six years. Johnson serves as chairman of the South Carolina Workforce Investment Board and was honored with the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG)-National Workforce Development Leadership Award.

Safety Training: Register by November 7 and save!

OSHA Recordkeeping, Effective Safety and Health Programs and Forklift Training are workshops designed to provide the training you need to help your company reduce risk and ultimately save money.

The first day of training will cover the very latest in Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) recordkeeping, a safety topic that generates more confusion and questions than any other. The afternoon session will provide a multitude of information on effective safety and health programs. The second day of training will focus solely on forklift training.  View Schedule

Each of the sessions will include a review of OSHA violations consistently cited by OSHA compliance officers during inspections. A discount is available to those individuals or companies who register for both days and/or send multiple attendees. 

S.C. Chamber members who register by November 7 can save up to $50 on each registration. One day registration fees start at just $219*, and two day registration fees start at just $399* (*Applies to S.C. Chamber members who register by November 7).

35th Annual Summit: Cheryl Stanton to keynote lunch

The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce's annual meeting and premier gathering of the state’s business leaders, the 35th Annual Summit, is set for November 12-14 at Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms. During the Summit, presented by Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C., special presentations will be held honoring the Business Leader of the Year (Mike Brenan, President, BB&T South Carolina), Public Servant of the Year (Jim Newsome, President & CEO, SC Ports Authority).

The Summit luncheon will feature Cheryl Stanton, Director, SC Department of Employment & Workforce, as the keynote speaker. In addition, confirmed symposium speakers include:

  • Janet Kavinoky, Executive Director, Transportation & Infrastructure, US Chamber of Commerce
  • Janet Oakley, Secretary of Transportation, S.C. Department of Transportation
  • Molly Spearman, Candidate, SC Superintendent of Education
  • Dr. Richard Sutton, Executive Director, SC Commission on Higher Education
  • Dr. Jimmie Williamson, Director, SC Technical College System
