Congratulations Governor Haley... Nikki Haley has been nominated as the Ambassador to the United Nations.  The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce thanks the Governor for her years of distinguished service to our state.  Haley truly was the "Jobs Governor." To read our full statement, click here.

Tapped to Help President-Elect Trump… Two members of South Carolina’s congressional delegation have been chosen to serve on President-Elect Donald Trump’s transition team.  Sen. Tim Scott and Rep. Trey Gowdy were both named to positions earlier this week.  Senator Scott will be a vice chair and Congressman Gowdy will be on the executive committee.   Their roles are to provide expertise and make recommendations as Trump assembles his administration.

Paying for Hurricane Matthew…According to Governor Nikki Haley’s office, Hurricane Matthew will cost the state almost $64 million, even though federal programs will pay the majority of the tab. The state will have to pay more than $30 million in damages to state roads and more than $33 million in damages to public buildings, debris removal, and the cost of emergency procedures.  No official totals have been given for damage to businesses.

SBA Still Offering Help…  Several SBA/FEMA Disaster Assistance Centers are still open, and it is not too late to apply for help. The SBA offers low-interest, long-terms disaster loans for physical damage and working capital. The filing deadline to return applications for physical property damage is December 13, 2016.  The deadline to return economic injury applications is July 12, 2017.  To find a Recovery Center near you click here.

Saying Goodbye…The South Carolina business community lost two distinguished leaders over the Thanksgiving holiday.  Cathy Novinger and Judy Davis both served on the board of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.  Chamber President Ted Pitts said, "Cathy Novinger and Judy Davis each leave a legacy that stretches far beyond the business world.  Both women were trail blazers and vital to the advancement of women in leadership roles in the Palmetto State.  They will be missed, but the impact of their lives and work will be felt forever."
