SC Chamber Announces 2016 Business Week Scholarship Recipients… This week, we announced our five SC Business Week Scholarship award winners. Students apply for scholarships at the beginning of the week, and go through a week-long interview process to determine the winners. SC Chamber President and CEO released the following statement:

“The quality of the scholarship applications we received were amazing, we’re very proud of all of our 2016 Business Week students. These kids are the future business leaders of South Carolina and we’re happy to help them on their journey to successful careers. Thanks to SCE&G, the Mechanical Contractors Association of South Carolina and all of the Business Week scholarship sponsors. Because of their generosity, these kids are able to go to college and accomplish many great things in the future.”

SCEMD Now Accepting Requests for Business Reentry Certification… This session, the General Assembly passed a bill creating a certification process for businesses attempting to bring goods into emergency disaster areas. This new process will allow SCEMD to verify that the business should be allowed reentry, and issue a certification on an annual basis. SCEMD has now opened this process up for businesses to begin requesting their certifications. For more information and to register, please click here.

Gov. Haley Appoints New Head of LLR… Governor Nikki Haley announced a new director Monday at the state Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. Emily Farr, an attorney at Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd specializing in employment law, will succeed Richele Taylor. Farr will begin Aug. 17 as Interim Director until she is confirmed by the Senate when it returns to Columbia in January.
