Welcoming Our International Directors Back Stateside
We imagine you've all heard the news by now... the US is opening its borders to vaccinated citizens from 33 countries come November. This is huge news!
The travel restrictions and consulate closures over the last year created a lag in processing renewals for visa holders. We are hopeful that the bottleneck will now open, and we can welcome more of our international Directors back stateside.
When we started Canteen in 2014, we set out to assemble some of the freshest tabletop talent from all over the world. Our goal was to embrace the efficiencies of global production and bring together diverse artists, each with their own voices and approaches to tabletop.
We are so excited to have done just that, but when COVID hit, and the travel restrictions were put into place, we felt it, even with the ability to shoot remotely.
As we worked to reshape our roster this past spring, we felt pressure in light of the border closures to limit ourselves to working with Directors that were local to the USA. While we came across some incredibly impressive Directors in the states and have signed on US talent, we realized that we did not want COVID and temporary travel policies to shape the future of our roster. So we reconnected with our original approach and sought out a team of talent that we felt hit the mark, regardless of locality.
This process helped us to focus on what matters most in this industry - sticking to a creative compass. This got us thinking... what other situations do we all encounter that challenge our ability to prioritize creativity?
It's questions like this that we have been discussing at our Think Tank series. Our next event will be coming up later this fall, and we would like to welcome you to join! If interested in staying up to date on the next event or in sharing your creative quandaries, please email us here.
