Greetings, fellow Newmanites! It was wonderful to see so many of you at Mass yesterday as well as at our various activities throughout the week; we hope you enjoyed taking part in the events at Newman and we look forward to seeing you again this week during our (many) exciting events!

The following are the announcements from the Newman Centre and the Newman Catholic Students' Society for the upcoming week. Please be sure to save the dates on your calendar!

Bible Study

Tuesday, October 1st

Feel free to join in our bible study session at the Newman Centre! Everyone is welcome! If you have any questions or concerns, please see our Facebook event or contact Rachelle at campus.minister@newmancentre.org.

Soup and Bagel

Monday to Thursday
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM

Come and enjoy fresh homemade soup and warm bagels from Monday to Thursday, 12:30 to 2pm, in the Bagelounge (on the ground floor of the Newman Centre); for only $3.50, it'll the perfect way to replenish your energy for your busy afternoon!

Book Club

Friday, October 4th
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Claude Ryan Library of the Newman Centre

Book Club will continue on Friday! The discussion will centre on "Identity and Religion" and will be animated by Pablo Irizar, Director of the Newman Centre. Readings and snacks will be provided, and the activity is open to everyone. Bring lots of ideas!

NCSS X CUCSA : Wine and Cheese

Come join us at the Newman Centre for Mass at 4:30, followed by an elegant wine and cheese event! Get your fancy ON (or pretend to be a wine connoisseur, whichever strikes your fancy!). Regardless, it will be an evening of fun conversations and intriguing food pairings. :) This will be a joint event between the NCSS and the Concordia University Catholic Student Association!

RCIA and Faith Studies Sign-Up

Friday, October 4th

If you are looking to enrich your faith or to receive the Holy Sacraments this year, please remember to sign up for RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) and Faith Studies! The Newman Centre Facebook page will be posting more information by Friday; in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact Rachelle, our Campus Minister, at campus.minister@newmancentre.org for more information !

Relevant McGill Volunteer Sign-Up

Relevant is an annual, week-long evangelistic campaign that happens in January. This year, they would like to have more representation from different Christian clubs at McGill, including the NCSS and the Newman Centre. If you are interested in volunteering during Relevant, to be an executive or Follow-Up Coordinator for Relevant, or to organize/oversee the execution of the event, please contact Khrystia or Ariel at outreach@mcgillcatholics.ca

Living at Newman - Room available!

The Newman Centre of McGill University has a single room available for in the women's coach-house (3484 Peel Street). If you want to be an active member of our vibrant community at the Newman Center and you want to become a resident, please contact the Newman Centre at director@newmancentre.org and coordinator@newmancentre.org. NCSS Membership

Membership in the Society is open to everyone and comes with the following benefits:
  • a $2 discount on a (one) Saturday Night Supper
  • right to attend Council meetings
  • right to vote in Society elections (if you are a SSMU or PGSS member)
Memberships cost $2 and can be purchased from our VP Finance, Wilhelm Magner. We will also be selling memberships at future Saturday Night Suppers (SNS).
 

Choir

The Newman Choir welcomes new students to join us. We usually practice for 1 hour before Mass on Sunday. For more information please contact choir director Ariel Pan at ariel.pan@mail.mcgill.ca.

Lectors & Acolytes

If you are interested in reading or altar serving at Mass at the Newman Centre, please contact OiYin at oi.lai@mail.mcgill.ca (lectors) or Matthew at matthewkourlas@mail.mcgill.ca (servers). We are particularly short on altar servers, so any volunteers regardless of experience would be greatly appreciated!

Mass Schedule

The Newman Centre has Mass every Sunday at 5:00PM. Weekday Masses are held on Tuesday to Friday at 4:30PM, with Eucharistic Adoration from 4:00-4:30PM. Prior to all weekday Masses, a priest will be available for spiritual direction at 3:00PM, with occasional exceptions on Thursdays, where priest availability will begin at 3:30. Confessions are heard before all Masses.

Centre Hours

The Newman Centre is open weekdays from 10:00AM-5:00PM (extended hours on some days) and on weekends during scheduled events such as Mass.

Parking at Newman

Parking spaces are reserved for staff, all others by permission only. Fees apply. See a member of staff before parking. Unidentified vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
