Greetings, fellow Newmanites! Apologies for the delay in sending out the newsletter!

In the light of finnal exams, please know that you are welcome to study and pray at the Newman Centre from 10 AM to 5 PM and
that Fr. Joachim (Chaplain) and Rachelle (Campus Minister) are available if you need to talk to someone.

NCSS Bi-Election: VP Social Justice

Voting closes : Friday, Dec 13th

As our current VP Social Justice, Valentine, will be going on exchange next semester, the NCSS is holding a bi-election for the position of VP Social Justice! If you would like to vote for one of the candidates, please fill out this form! The voting period will close on Friday evening.
Notice: only NCSS Members may participate in voting; to become a member of the NCSS, please see an executive member to purchase a membership for $2. If you are unsure whether or not you are a member, please contact Belle or Karli.

Feast of Our Lady Guadalupe

Thursday, Dec 12th
4:30 PM - 6:00 PM

The Newman Centre invites you to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Patroness of the Americas) on 12 December 2019.
The program includes: Mass at 4.30 pm followed by a presentation on the Feast and its significance by Pablo Irizar (Director of the Newman Centre) and a documentary on Our Lady of Guadalupe (40 minutes) and Mexican hot chocolate. For more information, please see the event page on Facebook!

Christmas Clothing Drive

Sunday, Dec 1st - Friday, Dec 13th
Entrance to the Newman Centre

There will be a box downstairs at the entrance of the Newman Centre where you can leave your clothes for our clothing drive! Clothes for any season are accepted. Thank you for your generosity!

Come and enjoy fresh homemade soup and warm bagels in the Bagelounge (on the ground floor of the Newman Centre); for only $3.50, it's the perfect way to replenish your energy for your busy afternoon!

Book Club

Friday, December 13th @ 2:00 PM

There are now two (2!) sessions for Book Club due to high demand! The discussion will be animated by Pablo Irizar, Director of the Newman Centre, along with guest interlocutors that will be announced on the Newman Facebook page every week along with readings of the day. Readings and snacks will be provided, and the activity is open to everyone. Bring lots of ideas!

Volunteering-Shelter La Porte Ouverte

Relevant McGill Volunteer Sign-Up

Relevant is an annual, week-long evangelistic campaign that happens in January. This year, they would like to have more representation from different Christian clubs at McGill, including the NCSS and the Newman Centre. If you are interested in volunteering during Relevant, to be an executive or Follow-Up Coordinator for Relevant, or to organize/oversee the execution of the event, please contact Khrystia or Ariel at

Lectors & Acolytes

If you are interested in reading or altar serving at Mass at the Newman Centre, please sign up here or contact Maddy at (lectors) or Matthew at (servers). We are particularly short on altar servers, so any volunteers regardless of experience would be greatly appreciated!


The Newman Choir welcomes new students to join us. We usually practice for 1 hour before Mass on Sunday. For more information please contact choir director Ariel Pan at

The Newman Centre of McGill University has a single room available for in the women's coach-house (3484 Peel Street). If you want to be an active member of our vibrant community at the Newman Center and you want to become a resident, please contact the Newman Centre at and For more information about residence life:

NCSS Membership

Membership in the Society is open to everyone and comes with the following benefits:
  • a $2 discount on a (one) Saturday Night Supper
  • right to attend Council meetings
  • right to vote in Society elections (if you are a SSMU or PGSS member)
Memberships cost $2 and can be purchased from our VP Finance, Wilhelm Magner. We will also be selling memberships at future Saturday Night Suppers (SNS).

Mass Schedule

The Newman Centre has Mass every Sunday at 5:00PM. Weekday Masses are held from Monday to Friday at 4:30PM, with Eucharistic Adoration from 4:00-4:30PM. Prior to all weekday Masses, a priest will be available for spiritual direction at 3:00PM, with occasional exceptions on Thursdays, where priest availability will begin at 3:30. Confessions are heard before all Masses between 3:00 and 4:00PM.

Centre Hours

The Newman Centre is open weekdays from 10:00AM-5:00PM (extended hours on some days) and on weekends during scheduled events such as Mass.

Parking at Newman

Parking spaces are reserved for staff, all others by permission only. Fees apply. See a member of staff before parking. Unidentified vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
