Greetings, fellow Newmanites! It was wonderful to see so many of you at Mass as well as at our various activities throughout the week; we hope you enjoyed taking part in the events at Newman and we look forward to seeing you again during our (many) exciting events!

Student Research Talks

Feed The Homeless

Tuesday, Mar 10th

Join us on Tuesday, March 10th, to prepare and hand out sandwiches to the homeless on St.Catherine. We will be meeting in the Bagelounge at the Newman Centre at 5:30! For more information, please see our Facebook page or contact Gianmarco!

Winter Coffee House

Saturday, Mar 14th

The Newman Centre

Coffeehouse is a vibrant celebration of everyone’s diverse talents, featuring acts such as singing, dancing, musical performances, dramatic monologues, poetry readings, and stand-up comedy. Kind volunteers bring cake, cookies and other baked goodies to share while we provide plenty of coffee. We will also be collecting donations for charity so please consider contributing. The suggested donation is $5.

Newman Ball 2020 : Garden of Eden

Saturday, Mar 21st

The Newman Centre

Please join us for a night of ethereal beauty and mystery at Newman Ball 2020: Garden of Eden! Doors open at 7:30PM, and there will be food, drinks, a themed photo booth, ballroom dance lessons, and a DJ'ed dance.

Tickets are $15 if you sign up on the Google form on or before March 15, 2020! Tickets purchased after March 15 or purchased at the door on the night of the event will be $20. You must pay CASH for your ticket AT THE DOOR on the night of, even if you have RSVP'ed!

Please note that while everyone should of course wear whatever they’re most comfortable in, the suggested dress code for the night is formal.

The Newman Rambler

The Newman Rambler, the Centre's in-house academic/opinion journal, will be launched THIS FRIDAY!  The issue is on our Patron Saint: John Henry Newman. Scholars' Club :
A Right to the City for Religious Groups

These discussion, based on issues at the intersection of politics, society and religion, will be animated by Pablo Irizar, Director of the Newman Centre, along with guest interlocutors every week along with readings of the day. Readings and snacks will be provided, and the activity is open to everyone. Bring lots of ideas!

University Mass & Fellowship

The Newman Centre team is happy to invite you to:  A University Mass on Saturday, 7 March @ 6 pm at the beautiful L'Église du Gesù (1202 Rue de Bleury, Montréal, QC H3B 3J3).
Mass will be presided in French/English by our Chaplain, Fr. Joachim Ostermann, OFM.
After Mass we will head to Hurley's for a beer, fellowship and great conversations!

2020 Marguerite D'Youville Lecture

Soup and Bagel

Come and enjoy fresh homemade soup and warm bagels in the Bagelounge (on the ground floor of the Newman Centre); for only $3.50, it's the perfect way to replenish your energy for your busy afternoon!

Bible Study : The Beatitudes

Every Monday until April 6th
5:00 PM - 6:30 PM, after daily Mass

After the Fall Semester Bible Study on Iconography, the Newman Centre is back this Winter with a new series on the Beatitudes! Join us every Monday at 5 pm after Daily Mass to discover the depths of one of Christ’s most famous sermons. Weather and daylight permitting, there may be one or two on Mount Royal, so prepare your Bibles, schedules and hiking boots!

Tolkien's Theology Tuesdays

Every Tuesday until May 12
5:00 PM - 6:30 PM, after daily Mass
The Newman Centre

Tolkien's Theology Tuesdays will engage the first book of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, "The Fellowship of the Ring". The readings will be done independently, and the group will meet once a week to discuss them, as well as the theological topics underlining the beautiful story. Light refreshments will be provided!

Wednesday Vespers in Byzantine Rite

Every Wednesday until April 29
5:00 PM - 5:30 PM, after daily Mass
The Newman Centre Chapel (2nd floor)

The Newman Centre will be starting weekly Vespers every Wednesday at 5:00 PM after daily Mass.
Please join us this week to pray for all of your intentions. Bring a friend!

Lectors & Acolytes

If you are interested in reading or altar serving at Mass at the Newman Centre, please sign up here or contact Maddy at (lectors) or Matthew at (servers). We are particularly short on altar servers, so any volunteers regardless of experience would be greatly appreciated!


The Newman Choir welcomes new students to join us. We usually practice for 1 hour before Mass on Sunday. For more information please contact choir director Ariel Pan at

NCSS Membership

Membership in the Society is open to everyone and comes with the following benefits:
  • a $2 discount on a (one) Saturday Night Supper
  • right to attend Council meetings
  • right to vote in Society elections (if you are a SSMU or PGSS member)
Memberships cost $2 and can be purchased from our VP Finance, Wilhelm Magner. We will also be selling memberships at future Saturday Night Suppers (SNS).

Mass Schedule

The Newman Centre has Mass every Sunday at 5:00PM. Weekday Masses are held from Monday to Friday at 4:30PM, with Eucharistic Adoration from 4:00-4:30PM. Prior to all weekday Masses, a priest will be available for spiritual direction at 3:00PM, with occasional exceptions on Thursdays, where priest availability will begin at 3:30. Confessions are heard before all Masses between 3:00 and 4:00PM.

Centre Hours

The Newman Centre is open weekdays from 10:00AM-5:00PM (extended hours on some days) and on weekends during scheduled events such as Mass.

Parking at Newman

Parking spaces are reserved for staff, all others by permission only. Fees apply. See a member of staff before parking. Unidentified vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
