Bible Study with Cardinal Newman

In honour of this week's upcoming canonization of Blessed John Henry Newman, our Bible Study will be based on his sermon in Religious Emotion, which itself approaches Peter's famous proclamation of faithfulness and subsequent denial of Christ. In order to be prepared, please see the sermon here!

There are now two (2!) sessions for Book Club due to high demand! The discussion will be animated by Pablo Irizar, Director of the Newman Centre, along with guest interlocutors that will be announced on the Newman Facebook page every week along with readings of the day. Readings and snacks will be provided, and the activity is open to everyone. Bring lots of ideas!

Soup and Bagel

Come and enjoy fresh homemade soup and warm bagels from Monday to Thursday, 12:30 to 2pm, in the Bagelounge (on the ground floor of the Newman Centre); for only $3.50, it'll the perfect way to replenish your energy for your busy afternoon!

Join us in learning about the Eastern Catholic Churches at our (favourite) event hosted by the Newman Centre! Discuss over some alcoholic beverages, share your thoughts, and most importantly, ask questions!

Saturday Night Supper (SNS)

The Newman Centre

The Newman Catholic Students' Society has a longstanding tradition of hosting regular suppers on Saturday nights, prepared by members of the Newman community. For $5, you can enjoy a full meal, including dessert! This SNS will feature a Bruschetta bar/caprese bar, a pasta bar, AND canestrelli (Italian shortbread cookies), and will be prepared by Jordan and Alexandra. There will be a vegetarian option.

Canonization Tea Party

After Mass at the Newman Centre

In honour of the Canonization of Blessed (soon-to-be Saint) John Henry Newman, we will be having a small tea party after Mass on Sunday at the Newman Centre. As this is a semi-formal event, please come dressed nicely!

Volunteering-Shelter La Porte Ouverte

Relevant McGill Volunteer Sign-Up

Relevant is an annual, week-long evangelistic campaign that happens in January. This year, they would like to have more representation from different Christian clubs at McGill, including the NCSS and the Newman Centre. If you are interested in volunteering during Relevant, to be an executive or Follow-Up Coordinator for Relevant, or to organize/oversee the execution of the event, please contact Khrystia or Ariel at

Lectors & Acolytes

If you are interested in reading or altar serving at Mass at the Newman Centre, please sign up here or contact OiYin at (lectors) or Matthew at (servers). We are particularly short on altar servers, so any volunteers regardless of experience would be greatly appreciated!


The Newman Choir welcomes new students to join us. We usually practice for 1 hour before Mass on Sunday. For more information please contact choir director Ariel Pan at

The Newman Centre of McGill University has a single room available for in the women's coach-house (3484 Peel Street). NCSS Membership

Membership in the Society is open to everyone and comes with the following benefits:
  • a $2 discount on a (one) Saturday Night Supper
  • right to attend Council meetings
  • right to vote in Society elections (if you are a SSMU or PGSS member)
Memberships cost $2 and can be purchased from our VP Finance, Wilhelm Magner. We will also be selling memberships at future Saturday Night Suppers (SNS).

Mass Schedule

The Newman Centre has Mass every Sunday at 5:00PM. Weekday Masses are held from Monday to Friday at 4:30PM, with Eucharistic Adoration from 4:00-4:30PM. Prior to all weekday Masses, a priest will be available for spiritual direction at 3:00PM, with occasional exceptions on Thursdays, where priest availability will begin at 3:30. Confessions are heard before all Masses between 3:00 and 4:00PM.

Centre Hours

The Newman Centre is open weekdays from 10:00AM-5:00PM (extended hours on some days) and on weekends during scheduled events such as Mass.

Parking at Newman

Parking spaces are reserved for staff, all others by permission only. Fees apply. See a member of staff before parking. Unidentified vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
