New research conducted by Teach First found that 43% of pupils in outstanding secondaries across the country are from the wealthiest 20% of families. According to their analysis, poorer pupils are half as likely as their better-off counterparts to be heading to an outstanding secondary school. "Through a mere accident of birth, poorer young people find doors closed and paths to the top blocked again and again and again."
