SCHOOLS NorthEast: Education leaders in the North East today called on Education Secretary Nicky Morgan to get behind plans for a schools-led improvement initiative to drive up standards in the region.

The call came in the wake of comments by the Secretary of State to the Education Select Committee today that she believes addressing geographical disparities in education is the top priority for her tenure.

Schools Northeast   Sarah Holmes-Carne was appointed as the new Principal of Kenton School in Newcastle this September, taking over from David Pearmain. In her column, Sarah tells SCHOOLS NorthEast about her excitement at beginning this new chapter at the school and her plans for the future: "As I lead Kenton I will accept barriers exist, but I won't accept they can't be overcome. Schools Northeast   The number of teachers working over 48 hours per week has now risen by almost a third, reports the Trades Union Congress (TUC). Since 2010, the numbers went up to 492,000 from the previous 376,000, making the teaching profession the most likely to require excessive overtime, compared to any other. The report mentions that the number of people working 48 hours per week has risen faster in education than in most other professions.  Read more >
