SCHOOLS NorthEast is launching a call for evidence from schools, as we investigate Head Teachers' concerns around exam boards, which stem from this Summer's standard of marking. We ask schools to come forward with stories - negative and positive, about their experience of GCSE and A-Level exam papers, marking process and grades, as well as proposed solutions.


The last few years have seen an increase in concerns over GCSE and A-level exams marking process, aside from the fundamental issue with comparing pupils' examination results after using different means of measuring their ability.

Schools Northeast   Newcaslte University's School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences and NatCen Social Research have conducted a study that reveals a high take-up of private tuition by primary school pupils. 

Nearly half of 11 year-olds among some minority ethnic groups in the UK are receiving private tuition outside of school, their research showed.

Schools Northeast   More girls than boys read books for fun, reveals the State of Kids & Reading Report. A total of 57% girls aged 6 -17 said they are currently reading a book for their own pleasure as opposed to it being a school task, compared to 45% boys. The report also suggests that almost nine in 10 parents of children aged 6 -17 (86%) say it is extremely or very important for their child to read books for fun, while less than half of kids (46%) agree.  Read more >
