A major school improvement programme was launched this week aiming to transform education standards on Teesside.

The initiative, spearheaded by former DfE permanent secretary Sir David Bell, is targeting school standards, deprivation gap, recruitment and retention of teachers and 14-19 education.

Schools Northeast   In a rather philosophical blog entry this week Neil Richmond, Head Teacher at Morpeth Stobhillgate First School, asks our readers (and his pupils) if teachers can be replaced by robots? 
Opinions differ from stage to stage, and from pupil to pupil: "In Nursery there's no question that a robot could easily do my job - according to young Sophia: 'And how could a robot do my job?' 'Well it could hand out the bags!' Too right there Sophia!"

Schools Northeast   Understanding the improved performance of disadvantaged pupils in London attributes the success to the excellent quality of primary schools that equip their pupils with the necessary knowledge, dating back to the mid-1990s. The research carried out by academics at London School of Economics comes after previous studies accredited other policies and programmes launched in the early 2000s for the great development. 
 

Schools Northeast   More pupils now turn to Youtube, Google and social media for career advice, revealed a new report commissioned by the government-backed campaign Your Life. Their research found that in three years there has been a 12% drop in the number of young people who speak to teachers about jobs. Almost two thirds of 11 to 15 year-olds still speak to teachers about future career plans, but now 15% also use internet platforms for information. Read more >
