News from Harriet Roberts, Operations and Project Manager
UPDATE FROM HARRIET ROBERTS, OPERATIONS & PROJECTS MANAGER, STANLEY GRANGE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION - 11 October 2021
Well done to Kevin Phoenix, Activities Coordinator for being able to bring back drumming tutor, Liam for regular music sessions in the community hall. Liam made a welcome return to Stanley Grange last week and there was a full house of smiling happy faces. Everyone was delighted to see Liam again after so long! Liam has lots of fans. We are now getting in training for a charity drumathon to support BBC Children in Need in November - details to be announced soon.
A swimming group also enjoyed their visit to the Half Fish HQ at Daisyfield.
This coming Wednesday (13 Oct), there’s a coach trip going Stanley Grange to the Care Show at the NEC in Birmingham as part of winning Care Sector’s Got Talent (competition participating photos above). The expenses paid trip will enable as many as possible to join in the Stronger Together Choir. This is a fitting testimony to the challenges of running activities during lockdown and going above and beyond to keep people connected and positive in the most difficult of circumstances. Meanwhile work has begun on the spooky window displays for Hallowe’en. Good luck, everyone! Some of those scarecrows look seriously scary to me!
Stanley Grange Community Action Team (CAT)
GETTING BACK ON THE MAP IN 2022!
I have been working with Jenny Neville, from Future Directions who are providing the recruitment and safeguarding infrastructure for a volunteering scheme for SGCA after the restrictions caused by Covid. We are creating a generic Community Action Team role description for folk who are happy to go through an application process and DBS checks to be on time bank or skills register. They will be called on an ‘as and when’ basis and be able to sign up on a rota for a wide variety of tasks which will enable us to play an active role as individuals and as a charity outside of Stanley Grange in our area. This is open to families, friends and staff with and invitation to the wider community to join our team.
In 2022, we want to take our award winning, interactive pop up stand to visit events. We aim to raise the profile of Stanley Grange again and engage with new audiences, local residents, organisations and corporate partners. We would like to return to The Empire theatre, Blackburn to put on a gala concert for our families, friends and supporters. A meeting will be held on Monday 8 November at 6pm in the Community Hall and on Zoom.
WE’RE MAKING HISTORY, COME AND BE PART OF IT!
We are now recruiting more trustees to help us create, launch and deliver an ambitious 5 year business plan to achieve our dreams. Fundamentally we are looking for board members who are caring. We are looking for people who want to make a difference to the lives of others and who can help us with projects like our phased building development plans, communications and fundraising strategy and partnership vision. We would love to hear from you if you can offer your professional skills, contacts and experience in any of the following areas;
Buildings maintenance and development projects
Inclusive arts, community engagement, creative partnerships and arts funding
Finance and accounting
Human resources and volunteer management
Commercial experience, business enterprise and education partnerships
Collaboration, stakeholder management
Branding, marketing and communications
As well as meeting on a monthly basis with the rest of the trustees, we need your experience and expertise to contribute to the work of small project teams who meet on an ad hoc basis to complete tasks and report back to the trustee board. There are 8 board meetings and the annual general meeting every year which take place either on Zoom or in person. To apply or for more details, in the first instance please contact our manager, Harriet Roberts for an informal conversation and to arrange a tour (subject to Covid restrictions). Bruce Gordon is returning on Thursday 18 November to take photos for Christmas cards. For those who choose to participate, these will be made available to order as Christmas cards via an online platform in a choice of sizes and finishes and as environmentally friendly e.cards. Bruce was a huge part of the Fun Time Friday initiative and the Stronger Together video during lockdown. His fantastic photos which capture the spirt of Stanley Grange are on our new website. We have missed Bruce so much and we can’t wait to see him again. https://www.brucegordonphoto.co.uk/about
