UPDATE FROM HARRIET ROBERTS, OPERATIONS & PROJECTS MANAGER, STANLEY GRANGE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION - 5 October 2021
HAPPY BIRTHDAY STANLEY GRANGE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
Thanks to everyone who supported our birthday celebrations on Friday 1 October. Kevin and the team got the party started with a birthday themed Funtime Friday with special guests Pat Bell, Eileen Porter and Marie Wilson from the Stanley Grange Families Forum and Paula Braynion, MD of Future Directions getting into the groove with the whole team. Eileen and Marie said it was quite an eye opener to see what happens behind the scenes.
Due to Covid restrictions we had two birthday sittings and what turned out to be two very different ceremonies. The 3pm order of service included speeches, civic dignitaries, a town crier and corporate partners. If you were at the 4pm event, you’ll know that things were slightly rowdier, to say the least and escalated into a full blown disco with dancing and confetti canons. It was great to see the rocking Rev, Hannah on the dance floor. The party could have quite easily gone on into the early hours. It was just fantastic to be able to officially open our community hall and kitchen and be together again. The newly decorated hall and deep cleaned new kitchen looked fantastic. Thanks to funders, supporters, contractors and volunteers for making it happen. A video and further photos will be available soon. Keep an eye on the website.
As we venture out and begin to rebuild our community links, lost through the pandemic, it was a privilege to visit St Joseph’s RC Primary School, Brindle who sang Happy Birthday’ accompanied by Kevin for a video which was relayed at our celebrations. Thank you to the teachers and staff for making us so welcome. We look forward to working together more in the future.
In the week where we all queued for fuel … EG Foundation awards Stanley Grange £4,000
We are delighted to announce the support of the EG Foundation towards a £403,000 campaign to upgrade two properties at Stanley Grange, Pendle and Weavers. Chair, David Wilks and Fundraiser, John Harris recently met with Mohamed Valli, Foundations and CSR Manager to discuss how the foundation would help support the Stanley Grange renovation. It was wonderful to welcome Mo to the birthday party and show him around our community to meet our partners and residents. (Acting Chair, David Wilks (right) with Mo Valli, EG Foundation.
The Stanley Grange Forum of Families and Friends had their first physical meeting since lockdown on Saturday 2 October. It was a pleasure to attend and meet lots of new faces. I look forward to working closely with the team over the coming months and developing new and exciting projects for the group to support.
Congratulations to the Future Directions Stronger Together Choir who were the winners in the national competition, Care Sector’s Got Talent from Championing Social Care. Care Sector’s Got Talent! is a fantastic virtual event to showcase the amazing talents of the social care sector. The ‘Stronger Together’ anthem by Kevin Phoenix, our Activities Coordinator at Stanley Grange captured the challenges of living and working through the global pandemic. The restrictions in visiting care homes impacted those living and working in the care sector. Without families to visit and the ability to bring entertainers and outside agencies in, life could have felt isolated… but the team stepped up and it’s amazing that their work has been recognised nationally for their outstanding commitment. A team will going to Birmingham NEC to perform at The Care Show later this month. The prize included a £100 gift to Future Directions’ chosen charity, Stanley Grange Community Association, Thank you and well done! 👏
