March First Friday Celebrate Our Roots
March 4th  -  6-8pm  -  downtown Milledgeville

Downtown Milledgeville exudes history, from the historic downtown buildings and the big oak trees, to the antebellum homes and the museums. The March 4th, “Celebrate our Roots” themed First Friday will be a time to explore Milledgeville’s rich history downtown from 6 to 8:00pm.
 
The First Friday Committee’s partnership with the Convention and Visitors Bureau and the museums will continue to offer FREE trolley rides to the museums for patrons to learn about Milledgeville history. While the Old Governor’s Mansion will NOT be open to the public due to a previous engagement, there will be a wide range of other past-year-favorite activities and lots of new to enjoy as well.Representatives from both Lockerly Arboretum and Andalusia Farm will also be present with information about upcoming events and information about their places in Milledgeville’s history.

Enjoy these explorations and more while at First Friday:
  • The Marlor Center Gallery, 201 North Wayne St.
    • “Peaceful Nature” exhibit of photographs by Lisa Wheeler
    • Self-guided architectural audio tour of the Marlor House for visitors with smart phones.
  • Sallie Ellis Davis House
    • Historic Tour of the home of dedicated and passionate Baldwin County educator, Ms. Davis, who worked her entire career as a teacher and principal at the Eddy School and touched the lives of Baldwin County children
    • "Corey Barksdale: Painting Progress" exhibit featuring artwork of Atlanta-based artist Corey Barksdale and Baldwin County students & community members. Barksdale's works often features vibrant colors and fluid movement applied in layers onto the canvas. Inspired by the works of Barksdale, the student exhibit pieces feature imagery from their surroundings. 
  • The Old Capital Museum tours
  • Julie Eyerly, local musician and lead in Georgia College’s “Chicago” will be providing the musical entertainment for the evening.
  • Free Face Painting with Lisa Marie Barry
  • The Georgia College Chemistry Club Kids’ Corner with engaging, scientific learning activities

The Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber will offer an Equal Employment Opportunity Law and Recent Enforcement Actions workshop. Georgia College Professor Matt Roessing, and students from his business law classes, will be presenting speakers.

Allied Arts will sponsor a watercolor painting workshop for adults in the Allen's Market Building, 101 West McIntosh Street, Milledgeville. Early registration is recommended as space is limited. This year's event is expected host more than 300 people and will feature a lively silent auction, exciting raffle, delicious food, and engaging and enjoyable socializing. As always, 100% of the money raised is used to provide GMC Prep student athletes with the necessities for a SAFE, quality program.

Global 6K for Water at GC

GC Depot

In celebration of world water week, GC is hosting this 6K, uniting with people across the globe running or walking to provide clean water and fullness of life to children in Africa. 6K...that is the average distance people in Africa walk for access to water. Every 6K participant provides clean water to a child in Africa and will get a one-of-a-kind race bib printed with that child's photo, connecting each person to the cause.
Register online today and join GC and advocates across the globe to help end the water crisis.

Want to know exactly what a police officer does? The Citizen's Police Academy will run 5 weeks, Monday nights beginning April 4th.
They will be accepting applications until March 25th.
You can get the forms at Milledgeville Police Department or download & print the forms for return to James Baugh, Public Safety Building, 125 W. McIntosh Street along with a picture ID. The background check form will need to be filled out above the double line.

"Mothers and Daughters: An Exhibition of Nineteenth Century Ladies Clothing"
March 1 - April 30

This exciting exhibition will feature children’s clothing, adult dresses, and maternity clothing from the mid-19th century. Additional artifacts will include accessories for adults and young girls, and a photograph collection showing various dress styles of the period.

Lake Country Gymnastics (LCG) is hosting a race on Saturday, March 5, 2016, supporting their competition team and their charity focus, Snowball Express, a kid’s organization to honor family members who have died in active duty military service, fallen heroes of these great United States, providing hope and new happy memories to those children.

The 1st Annual Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt, hosted by Church Central, will be held at the Georgia Military College Football Field.
Bring your children ages 0 - 5th grade to search for over 5,000 eggs and maybe even find a golden egg to redeem for a prize! Don't forget your basket!
