New European rules for advocacy
Brussels, 26 January 2015: The European Commission and Parliament launched a new Transparency Register with the aim of making EU decision-making and the activities of lobbyists more accountable while giving lobbyists more incentives to register and making the database easier for lobbyists and the public to access.
The transparency register has been set up to answer core questions such as what interests are being pursued, by whom and with what budgets. The system is operated jointly by the European Parliament and the European Commission.
The new system brings changes to the way human resources invested in lobbying are declared, requires additional information about involvement in EU committees, forums, intergroups or similar structures, and legislative files currently followed. The register also extends the requirement to declare estimated costs related to lobbying to all registrants.

London, 28 January 2015: New research by Deloitte, commissioned by the Advertising Association, has revealed that without advertising, much of the UK’s media, culture and sport would be unsustainable in its current form.
The report – Advertising Pays 3 – examines how advertising spend and brand sponsorship impacts the media, entertainment, arts and sport that people enjoy every day.
Analysis of primary market research data conducted as part of this project, suggests that people value access to these advertising-funded services at nearly £10 billion. By lowering the cost of media and culture, advertising brings it within reach of millions more people than would otherwise be the case.
