edcom organises webinar on ad blocking in co-operation with IAB
 
edcom held its first edTalk (webinar) of the year, which focused on ad blocking. This edTalk was organised especially for students currently competing in the Ad Venture Competition, but anyone working in the industry was welcome to join. David Frew, Senior Programmes Manager at IAB UK, talked about how ad blocking affects the advertising industry and shared the results of a study which IAB published recently. European Advertising Certificate 2016
 
With six weeks left before the offline exam on 14 April 2016, there is still enough time to complete the learning for the EAC online course!  The EAC (European Advertising Certificate) represents a unique opportunity for young professionals to expand their knowledge of the commercial communications industry. edcom welcomes students to the Ad Venture Student Competition 2016
 
Hundreds of students from various European higher education institutes are currently working on their campaigns for the Ad Venture Student Competition 2016. This year, the competition has been launched in co-operation with the European Media Alliance (print, TV and online). The brief challenges students to create a pan-European campaign to raise awareness about the consequences of Ad Blocking technology on access to online content. The winning team will attend the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The deadline for submission is 16 March 2016. Have a look at our website to find out more!
EACA International Summer School 2016 in Berlin
 
EACA and edcom would like to invite students and young professionals to the EACA International Summer School in Berlin (Germany) from 4 to 8 July 2016. Young professionals and students will have the opportunity to work together in international teams on a real brief while being supported and guided by leading practitioners from the EACA School and IAB. This year’s client is Deutsche Telekom, the German telecommunications giant. EACA members pay € 650 as opposed to non-EACA members who pay € 800. Visit our website for more information!
 edcom Thesis Competition: winners announced
 
During the edcom Members’ Meeting, the Research Committee announced the winners of the annual edcom Thesis Competition 2015-2016. The winner of the Bachelor category is Kirsten Van Beuzekom from Hogeschool Utrecht (The Netherlands) with her thesis: "An Inspirational story: What Marketers can learn from Storytelling by Sports Brands". The winner of the Master category is Yvonne Kolen from NHTV University (The Netherlands) with her thesis: "Interactive Digital Narratives and the Narrative Paradox". Both winners will receive free participation, travel and accommodation for the EACA International Summer School which will take place from 4-8 July 2016 in Berlin. edcom would like to thank all the finalists, their mentors and their schools for participating in the competition. 
 
Euro Effie Awards celebrates 20 years
 
The Euro Effie Awards 2016 is the 20th edition of this important industry competition. Call for entries is now open through May 2016. To be considered for a Euro Effie, campaigns must offer proof of having met or exceeded clearly stated objectives in at least two or more European markets.
