Dear Yvette ,
Februari is one of our favorite months. The rainy season is wrapping up, the island is nice and green and we just love these somewhat lower temperatures. At times we even get a chance to wear a cardigan or long sleeve shirts. You may be laughing at us when you hear us saying or see us posting that "we are cold" . Believe us, we have been chuckling about the exact same thing when we just moved here. Only to have to acknowledge, a year later, that we were starting to feel that "winter-chill' just as well. Another reason to love February is our Carnival season, of course! Celebrating Carnival is deeply rooted in our heritage and who does not like a good party with gorgeous colorful costumes? If you decide to join us for the party, please bring lots of sunscreen, drink ample water and please designate a sober driver if you are planning to drink.
Would you like to enjoy every single February on our island from now on? Please visit realestate.cw to check out our listings or drop by our office. We know the island and its real estate market like no-one else and gladly assist you in finding your dream home.
Would you like to start the new year with a new professional challenge? RE/MAX Bonbini is actively looking for sales talent. Sales associates with RE/MAX are working as independent contractors. You get all liberty you need to perform optimally: no set working hours, no rigid sets of rules to comply to, an unlimited income potential based on a generous commission structure and attractive shared office space with ample room to meet with clients. Our sales associates are in business for themselves, but not all by themselves. We take care of corporate marketing and advertising and we offer shared support services like contract management and secretarial support. We currently manage two office locations (in the Renaissance Rif Fort and at Blue Bay), but we are opening a third office in the new mall at Caracasbaaiweg later this year.

We like to take this opportunity to officially welcome our new real estate agent, Jeroen Spruit. Jeroen is 35 years of age and proud father of a beautiful twin. He lived in Curacao for most of his life and has known several of our team members for years. This past week Jeroen has already worked with some of his colleagues but he will officially start his career with RE/MAX on the first day of February. We are looking forward to working with him.

Are you an entrepreneur and do you perform most of your business internationally? The new export regulation may be great news for you. You may qualify to start paying only a fraction of tax compared to what you have been used to. If you ever needed a justifiable reason to move to our lovely little island, you may just have found it.
Both Curacao entities (NV's and BV's) and international entities with a so-called permanent establishment (such as a branch) on Curaçao can benefit from this new regulation.
If your business realizes at least 90% of profits abroad, it may qualify to designate 95% of profits as "foreign profits". These foreign profits will be taxed at only 1/10th of the nominal tax rate (currently 27.5%). The remaining 5% of profit will be taxed at the nominal rate. The effective profit tax rate entities under the export regulation will amount to 3.99%.
Examples of international activities are:
Explicitly excluded are the following services:
- sales and export to customers abroad;
- repair of goods for foreign entrepreneurs;
- maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment abroad;
- international services, for instance by means of e-commerce;
The included and excluded activities are quite similar to the in- and exclusions in the e-zone legislation.
- trust activities and activities with regard to the trust business;
- services by civil law notaries;
- services by accountants and tax consultants.
Why is a regulation like this being introduced?
The current offshore regimes will disappear as of 2019. Knowing this, the government of Curaçao aims to strengthen Curaçao's position as an attractive, that is tax friendly, location for internationally active enterprises. Furthermore, the government has indicated it will continue its search for alternative solutions for enterprises under the current offshore regimes that will not be able to benefit from the new of the export regulation. Curaçao’s financial services industry will be actively involved in the search efforts.
Would you like to know more about the new export regulation? Please refer to KPMG Meyburg Caribbean. Their regularly distributed Tax Alert Publication has been the main source for this article.

January 30 is always a special day for RE/MAX affiliates, it's Founders Day. On Jan. 30, 1973, Dave and Gail Liniger started the first RE/MAX real estate office in Denver, Colorado, and their idea sparked a real estate phenomenon. Regional Leaders and Broker/Owners around the world have carried that vision for the past four decades and in 2014 there are more than 100.000 RE/MAX real estate agents in more than 80 countries worldwide! Each of these agents works hard every day by delivering great service and results for his/her clients. That is truly the RE/MAX spirit.
Our March issue will be released in the last week of February. In the meanwhile, please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of any assistance. It is our pleasure to help.
With Sunny Regards,
Broker - Owner
