A Friendly Note From Our Team

Dear <<First Name>> ,

As we reported in our last newsletter, RE/MAX BonBini hosted TGI Monday, an informal business event at Nettobar in Willemstad. We are proud to announce that the evening was a huge success. If you could not attend this session we hope to welcome you next time. We will organize events for our future, past and present clients on a more regular basis.  Click here to visit the facebookpage for an impression of the evening.
These last few weeks the Curacao soccer team played qualifying matches for the Soccer World Cup 2018 in Russia. The last game, held in Cuba, was interrupted by a huge thunderstorm but 4 hours later it was clear that Curacao made it to the next round! July 25 is the draw match for the third round of the World Cup qualifiers. After round 3 the next hurdle will be the qualification pool. Fortunately, Patrick Kluivert has decided to prolong his contract and stay on as our national coach. With him at the lead, having so much experience as player and assistant coach to the Dutch soccer team, we believe we really stand a chance to reach the qualifying rounds and perhaps even play the World Championships.
On 5, 6 and 7 June Marro and Lauw presented “50 hours live”.  50 hours of live radio from Wet & Wild Beach Club, broadcasted by 7 television / radio stations, to raise money for, amongst others, school supplies. This third edition resulted in ANG 468,000 for equal education. A wonderful result.
We’ll leave you with this newsletter and wish you a wonderful summer.

Double Play (book by Frank Martinus Arion) being Filmed

The famous movie director Ernest Dickerson (Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X, The Walking Dead) is heading to Curaçao to direct an adaptation of the book 'Double Play'.
The story centers on four men, playing a marathon game of dominoes which lasts from early morning until night.  The game serves as a trigger for social, political and sexual rivalries.
The film will be shot on location in Curacao, and will make broad use of the land and its people.  Financing has been secured with casting underway, and filming set to begin in November.

Saving Coral

Conservationists of the Coral Restoration Foundation planted 10 “trees” in Curacao to preserve Curacao coral. The results of previous similar actions in Bonaire are hopeful. Small pieces of Elkhorn and Staghorn coral are attached to the trees. These are fast growing corals and after about 9 months the trees are fully grown and the coral will be placed in the rif. The Netherlands Supports Development Ferry Service ABC-Islands

The Netherlands supports the initiative of developing a quick daily ferry service between Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire.  A feasibility study commissioned by Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire has started. All three islands will pay their part in this investigation supported by Havenbedrijf Amsterdam, a close partner of the Bonaire harbor.

The ferry will not only transport people but also cars and trucks.

Despite the islands being close distance from one another, the only existing connection is by plane or private boat.

4D at The Cinemas

As of  June 11th, 2015 ‘The Cinemas Curaçao’ is the first cinema in Central America to offer 4D movie seats. These seats give the visitors a sensational experience for all their senses. The movies in this theater will be in 2D or 3D while viewers experience no less than fifteen spectacular effects such as; wind, water, smell, light, movement and touch. Most of these effects come from the chair, but some also from the front of the theater, through the walls and out of the ceiling.

Going to the movies will never be the same. ‘Jurassic World’ is ‘The Cinemas’ first 4D movie.

HSS Discovery on her way to Istanbul

After spending four years in Caracasbaai the HSS Discovery was auctioned on 14 April 2015 and sold to Turkey. On 15 June you could have seen her being towed away and starting her trip to Istanbul where she will be restored and placed back into service.

She had been part of the scenery for quite some time and, although not quite attractive, formed a landmark.

World Port Tournament Baseball (18 till 26 July 2015)

The World Port Tournament (WPT) is a highly ranked international baseball tournament held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, which has been organized by “Stichting Rotterdam Baseball” for over twenty years. The WPT is organized bi-annually, in cooperation with the “Haarlemse Honkbal Week”, which takes place in the ‘even’ years.
With Curacao and The Netherlands being the competitive teams in this tournament, Curacao baseball players are well represented.  The selection of the teams is not announced yet but we expect the Dutch team to consist of many Curacao players. Wishing them all a very sportsmanlike week and may the best team win.
