The fifth edition of the Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival will take place in World Trade Center located at Piscadera Bay on August 29 and 30, 2014. During these two days the festival will cover a wide range of international artists performing at the festival grounds.

In the week preceding the festival, the island will submerge itself in jazz, soul, Latin, hip-hop and rhythm & blues , all with a Caribbean touch. Wednesday August 27 José James will perform at Brakkeput Mei Mei and on Thursday August 28 the Dutch Metropole Orchestra, accompanied by several guest singers, will pay tribute to Doble R during a free concert. This tribute concert will also be broadcasted at Brionplein. You can be sure August will end with a musical bang.

Friday August 29th: Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, Rod Steward, Maná, Smokey Robinson, Dianne Reeves, Seun Kuti, Joss Stone and Maceo Parker

Saturday August 30th: Juan Luis Guerra, Bruno Mars, Dr. John, Boz Scaggs, Henry Butler-Steven Bernstein and the Hot 9, Sierra Maestra, Janelle Monáe and Chaka Khan

Fun at the waterside

Living on the small island like Curaçao means you cannot avoid the water. So you should not be surprised that the youth of Curacao is proficient in all kinds of water sports. Many practice sailing and windsurfing at Spanish Water Lagoon. Recently two of those youths participated in the World Championships Sailing in Portugal and two in the North-American Championships. They performed very well; Odile van Aanholt (age 16) came in fourth at the WC. All very promising for the Youth Olympics being held in China from August 16 till August 28. We wish them lots of success.

Curacao Well Loved By US Residents

USA Today's readers voted Curacao the second best Caribbean Island. “Our readers love to warm up in the tropics and they have enthusiastically voted Puerto Rico the Best Caribbean Island in our latest Readers’ Choice contest.   Curacao landed in a solid second place, followed by Dominica in third:  all lovely choices for a getaway,” USA Today stated on their website.

Curacao has something to offer for everyone: Photographers love the colorful capital Willemstad with its Dutch colonial architecture, art lovers will find a thriving scene, foodies appreciate the cuisine influenced by both Dutch at Indonesian flavors and with nearly 40 beaches, beach bums have ample choice.

The popularity of the island lead Jet Blue to start frequenting the island twice a week, with a direct flight from New York that will only take 4 hours and 20 minutes.
