Nie genoeg kommersiële boere geskep nie

Sedert die geboorte van demokrasie in Suid-Afrika het daar nog nie ‘n geloofwaardige aantal suksesvolle kommersiële boere vanuit die opkomende sektor na vore gekom nie, het Maseli Letuka in sy voorsittersrede by die Nasionale Ontwikkelende Rooivleisprodusente Organisasie (NERPO) se algemene jaarvergadering gesê.

Landboustatistiek van kritiese belang

Volgens ‘n publikasie deur Statistieke Suid-Afrika is daar in 2009 ‘n studie van stapel gestuur om landboustatistieke in die land te evalueer. Die navorsing het ten doel gehad om die gehalte, kwantiteit en gereeldheid van landboustatistieke wat in daardie stadium beskikbaar was, te evalueer. Daar is bevind dat die statistieke nie voldoende was nie.

Upward movement of beef prices expected in short term

Internationally, beef prices are expected to move upwards in the short term with a sideways movement in the medium term due to higher demand and signs that producers start to keep productive cows back for herd rebuilding in the US, according to ABSA Agri Trends weekly report.
 
Domestic beef prices are expected to move upwards in the short term with an upward movement in the medium term due to higher demand towards December but supplies are still good.

Mutton market trends

Internationally, mutton prices should continue to increase in the short term with a sideways movement in the medium term due to higher demand and less stock and the end of the season in storage. Locally, the prices will move upwards in the short term with an upward movement in the medium term due to higher demand towards the summer season.

Perspective October 2013

As mentioned before we expect a somewhat drier country, the worst off being the Western Cape winter rainfall region and the north-eastern parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo (Low Veld and bordering Limpopo basin). .
