A surgery recovery milestone
I'm back in my office each day, but not working full days yet. Physically I can almost handle a full day, but mentally I feel like I'm not as sharp as I was before the surgery. This is not uncommon after heart surgery, and is usually temporary.

After being out of my office for eight weeks, I have a lot to catch up on, including gifts, commitments, emails and cards from many of you.

We are continually amazed at the number of people who are praying for us. Thank you!

Serving our King together,

John Nystrom (& for Bonnie)

Off the drugs, on the bike

Yesterday I graduated. My cardiologist took me off the heart rhythm blood thinning medications. He said it's time to start huffing and puffing but don't overdo it, and that I could get back on my bike. So this morning Bonnie and I went on a ride together instead of a walk as we have been doing twice a day.

Back in my office, but not all the time and maybe "not all there"
Praise and Prayer

Praise the Lord with us for good progress on my recovery.

Please pray for full recovery both physically and mentally, and wisdom as I prioritize what I catch up on first.

Praise the Lord with us for more progress on financial partnership. The gap in our financial partnership is now down to $369 from over $2,000/mo in early September. The day I can focus on translation full-time is coming closer!

Please pray that the Lord would close the remaining gap soon.

Praise the Lord with us that my mother (Marilyn Nystrom) continues to recover from the issues that led to three hospitalizations in the last two months.

Please pray for Bonnie as she continues to carry a heavy load, caring for her family, my mom, and me.

What we do

Since 1987 we have been training local Papua New Guinean church leaders to translate the Bible into their own languages and coaching them through the process from first draft to publication.

We serve in the Aitape West Translation Project, which is producing and distributing Bible translations in 11 languages in print, electronic, audio, and video form; training local people to use the translations; and training the local translators to help other translators do the same in still more languages.

We have written about how a tsunami changed the face of Bible translation in Papua New Guinea in our bookSleeping Coconuts. It is available here on Kindle or here in paperback.

Wycliffe has released a short film called "Arop" about this amazing story. The one-minute book trailer is here
