A heart full of gratitude

In July, our team taught many local people to write and perform worship songs in their own languages.

After moving back to Florida from Wisconsin and putting my mother's condo up for sale, I spent a week in Dallas for Wycliffe computing strategy meetings and a Bible translation conference. I came home with a heart full of gratitude to God for allowing Bonnie and me to be a part of helping people to read, hear, and sing God's Word in their languages for the first time.

And I'm more excited than ever to get to work again with the translators. But first we need to finish building our partnership team. Would you pray that the Lord would close the remaining gap, about $1300 per month, soon? If you'd like to join our financial partnership team, see the instructions below.

We have sent our last annual printed newsletter to everyone who has expressed an interest in our ministry over the years, but for whom we have no email address. You can see it here

Please also pray

=> for Bonnie as she participates in Jaars Board meetings this weekend in NC.

=> for our mothers, Marilyn and Jo, as both are navigating difficult transitions.

=> for several of the translators, now in a "Discover Your Language" course, which will help each one understand how to use their own language more effectively in translation, and help prepare them to help other translators in other languages in the future.

Thank you again for your partnership with us, which helps make all of this possible.

Serving our King together,

John Nystrom (& for Bonnie)

P.S. At the conference, I did a presentation about our diglot strategy. You can see the paper here. In it, Ben Pehrson and I describe the unique economic, social and linguistic challenges our team faces in the Aitape West area, how we have addressed them in the past, and how we are improving our process now to ensure everybody has a chance to encounter God's Word in the languages (plural) that are most meaningful to them. In Appendix 1, Core Values and Practices, we explain what makes our translation team tick and why it is different from most Bible translation projects.
