A new chapter in caring for my mom
I took this photo of my mom, Marilyn Nystrom, last winter.
Many of you pray for my mom, so here's her latest news.

As soon as I saw my mom on Sunday morning, I knew she had had her third stroke. The left side of her face was sagging a bit and she could not speak clearly.

Wednesday she came home from the hospital with her speech much improved but still affected. She can swallow only smooth foods and must be careful with liquids: accidentally getting food or drink "down the wrong pipe" and into her lungs could lead to pneumonia.

Please continue to pray for my mom. She was very encouraged and agreed in prayer with one of her doctors, who prayed that she would not have another stroke until the Lord is ready to take her home.

Please pray for Bonnie and me as we learn what a dysphagia level 2 diet is and discern how best to care for mom in this season.

Praise the Lord for translation progress. In the last ALT, I asked you to pray that the Lord would help us as a team to get as many chapters of John 13-19 as possible ready for the Feb 7 start of the next translation workshop, and that Emil Ninkure would have time to work on it with us.

The Lord did, and we did, and Emil did. Chapters 13-16 were ready.

Now you can pray that we can get John 17-19 ready as soon as possible while the translators work on 13-16. Many outstanding issues in the Arop translation of these chapters await my attention.

We continue to be grateful to God for your partnership.

What we do
Since 1987 we have been training local Papua New Guinean church leaders to translate the Bible into their own languages and coaching them through the process from first draft to publication.

We serve in the Aitape West Translation Project, which is producing and distributing Bible translations in 11 languages in print, electronic, audio, and video form; training local people to use the translations; and training the local translators to help other translators do the same in still more languages.

We have written about how a tsunami changed the face of Bible translation in Papua New Guinea in our bookSleeping Coconuts. It is available here on Kindle or here in paperback.

Wycliffe has released a short film called "Arop" about this amazing story. The one-minute book trailer is here
