Success Stories

Advocacy is an unsung hero on our service list. This month we want to share our work with a family who was living without health insurance due to a language barrier. We were able to interpret calls on their behalf, find the best policy for them, and activate a plan. Now mom and her three children have health insurance.

One our refugee clients recently lost their job, and due to their old age has been struggling to find a job. He is actively looking for a new job and is keeping us updated on his findings. We are assisting him in one months rent while he dedicates his time to finding a new job. We understand it may take a bit longer for him to find a job because of the language barrier, but we are here to help and support him.

NO NEED TO EMPTY YOUR WALLET THIS WINTER SEASON
Few tips on how to save money this winter by making small changes:
  • Instead of bringing the thermostat past 80 degrees, put on your favorite sweater and socks.
  • Make sure to keep your vents clean and clear to avoid obstructing the air flow. If there is a room you don't use close/cover the vents allowing more air to flow into other rooms.
  • Keeping the heat on at all times even if it's on low doesn't really save you any money. If you are going to out of the house for the greater part of the day, turn off the heat. A few minutes of a chilly house when you return is worth all the money you'll be saving.
  • Air seal your home. Check to see if air easily comes in through your doors or windows. Invest in good heavy curtains to retain heat in. Blinds should remain closed unless facing direct sunlight.
  • Get great use from your humidifier. Instead of the dry warm air that doesn't last, the humidifier will allow the air to retain some moisture and keep the air hot.
  • Lastly, start changing all your light bulbs to LED bulbs. Not only do they use a lot less energy but they last way longer, making their price worth it.
