March 21 Racial Equality Day 3月21日種族平等日

Hong Kong Unison celebrated the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21, by launching a video in 2 parts about the day and what the government and each one of us can do for racial equality. We were also interviewed by Ming Pao, HK01 and South China Morning Post about why we think it is crucial for the government to amend the Race Discrimination Ordinance to cover government's exercise of powers and functions in the 10th year of the Ordinance's implementation.

What is the history of this international day? Watch this video.
Does racism exist in Hong Kong? What can I do to combat racism? Find out from this video.

Amend the Race Discrimination Ordinance

Around Racial Equality Day, we used this opportunity to arouse public awareness about our call for amending the Race Discrimination Ordinance (RDO). This year sees the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the RDO, but it still does not cover the exercise of government powers and functions, and is the only one among the current 4 discrimination ordinances that has this flaw, reflecting a lack of commitment from the government to eliminate racial discrimination starting from inside the system. Hong Kong Unison and ethnic minority speakers demand the government to immediately amend the law when we attended a public hearing in February.
