Cultural diversity is a driving force of development, not only with respect to economic growth, but also as a means of leading a more fulfilling intellectual, emotional, moral and spiritual life. In fact, three-quarters of the world’s major conflicts have a cultural dimension. Bridging the gap between cultures is urgent and necessary for peace, stability and development.
Every year on 21st May, UNESCO celebrates the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development to highlight the richness of the world’s cultures and the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development.
As Asia's world city, Hong Kong is a treasure trove of cultural diversity, with many among us embracing the best of many cultural worlds. Ethnic minorities make up about 8% of Hong Kong's population, which means that on average, one in 12.5 people here is an ethnic minority. If you take a closer look beyond the glitzy buildings at the smaller bylanes and commercial centres, you will see how vibrant and multi-layered this city truly is. As this day provides us with an opportunity to deepen our understanding of cultural diversity, Hong Kong Unison presents to you Diverse.City, a unique guide to the multicultural layers of this city.
The Diverse.City campaign will be held from 28th May to 19th June 2022, featuring a DIY local tour with an all-access audio guide. All registered participants will have exclusive access to the Storius App and self-guided tours to 3 unique routes and more than 50 historical and important places frequented by ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, accompanied with an audio guide narrated by local celebrities, influencers and ethnic minority friends such as Jessica Ho, No.6@Rubberband, Tony Hung, Vivek Mahbubani and Jeffery Andrews etc.
Participants can follow the routes to learn about the contributions, religious activities and daily lives of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, and how they have added to the overall fabric of the city. In addition to the audio guide, several special events will be arranged on the weekends to provide an interactive experience. Register to participate in Unison’s Diverse.City campaign and join us as we celebrate the diversity of Hong Kong together!
This campaign raises funds for the Hong Kong Unison in support of its policy advocacy and empowerment work to promote racial equality in Hong Kong.
