Meeting with the Steering Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs 與少數族裔事務督導委員會會晤
Together with Unison’s Vice Chair Ms. Puja Kapai, we met with the Steering Committee of Ethnic Minority Affairs on 12th July to discuss about Chinese teaching and learning of ethnic minority children and systematic data collection to monitor implementation of support measures. Many ethnic minority students, after 12 years of primary and secondary education, only have Chinese ability similar to that of primary two children. It is not justifiable and acceptable.

The Government established the Steering Committee on Ethnic Minorities Affairs, under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary for Administration, in July 2018 to enhance internal collaboration in the Government. A total of $500 million has been earmarked in the 2018 Budget for initiatives on ethnic minority employment, education, social welfare and youth exchange.

The feedback received will be consolidated and submitted to the Task Force as a collective submission. Share your views via this Google form before 2nd October.

JUNS Parents Seminar  聯校尼泊爾大學學生會 家長研討會

On 14th July, the first generation of Nepali university students in Hong Kong (Joint University Nepalese Society JUNS) organized "Conversation with Parents" at Yaumatei Community Centre. Hong Kong Unison was invited as guest speaker to talk to Nepalese parents on relevant education issues. The objective of the event was to help parents analyse the difficulties they face in the local education system and discuss about possible solutions through dialogue. The parents who joined had queries regarding their children's education and parenting skills, which were eventually discussed in a group. The parents liked the overall concept and the effort of such event and also had some good suggestions to make future events more successful.
