A number of you may have Community Expert Permission Requests to submit to the Board of Teaching for new or returning staff. The authorizer signature is required on this document prior to submission to the Board of Teaching. Please submit these to David. David will review and either sign and return the document to you, or call you with any questions.
In the next month, ACNW and its authorized schools will begin to use Epicenter, a new tool for data collection and management. This system will simplify communication and make document collection more efficient for both. We met with a number of school leaders this week to get some feedback regarding the system and the feedback was all positive.
We will be setting up training dates in late July/early August. ACNW will host two in-person gatherings – one up North and one in the Cities – during which Epicenter staff will provide training via webinar. ACNW staff also be available to work through implementation questions and concerns. Epicenter will offer additional webinars and ongoing training and support. Again, the tool and trainings are provided to your school at no additional cost. We will be sending out training dates early next week.

On July 31, CliftonLarsonAllen will host a conference for Minnesota Charter School Leaders. This all-day conference will focus on practical tools and learnings in the areas of academics, operations and finance, governance, and fundraising and is ideal for principals and school administrators, board members, and other finance and operations professionals serving Minnesota charters.

The keynote speaker is Nina Rees, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. Beyond the keynote and breakout sessions, you will have a chance to network with peers and build new relationships with charter leaders across the state. Visit the CliftonLarsonAllen website to learn more or to register.
MDE is hosting a legislative update for charters and authorizers on July 30, 2013, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at MDE. You can also review 2013 Legislative Session changes on the Legislation page of MDE’s website.

In addition, the Minnesota Association of Charter Schools has published short reference guides regarding specific legislative changes. The 2013 Legislative Changes Implementation Guidance Series can be found on the MACS website.
Four schools authorized by ACNW have experienced a change in leadership. All are moving on from their positions at the school.

Ann Luce, Bright Water Elementary
Sandy Morrow, Swan River Montessori.

ACNW is authorizing one school that will be opening its doors this fall. Vermilion Country School, located in Tower, will serve approximately 70 students in grades 7-12. The school will implement a project-based learning model designed to have students take an active role in their own education and betterment of their communities.
The board of directors of ACNW decided to not renew its contract with the Emily O. Goodridge Grey Accelerated Charter School. This decision was based on the school’s performance during the term of its most recent contract. The school has closed effective June 30, 2013.
