Prayer, Partnership Bring COVID-19 Healing

When Adventist Health Portland took in their first patient with the new coronavirus (COVID-19), a growing global pandemic took the form of a community member with a name, a face and a family. Called to live God's love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope, clinical and support teams went to work using training, expertise and specific action plans prepared for this possibility.

Ladies in Alaska Help Girls in Africa

A group of ladies in Fairbanks, Alaska heard about the Days for Girls movement and the need for feminine hygiene products in countries where young women are not able to attend school several days each month because a lack of personal protection. The ladies worked together to sew and assemble 100 hygiene kits for girls at a boarding school in Malawi, Africa. Twenty-six students from Upper Columbia Academy in Spangle, Washington, were planning to go to Malawi in March 2020, taking the kits with them. Unfortunately, the mission trip was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting travel restrictions. Plans are now in place to have the kits shipped to the schoolgirls in Malawi.

New Church Plant in Portland

The Oregon Conference is excited to welcome the Crosswalk Church to their family. The Portland plant aims to grow a community of those that are disconnected, seeking to grow and searching for a place of belonging. They aim to have their first pop-up service within two weeks of COVID-19 restrictions lifted. Watch this video from Paddy McCoy, who will be leading the church plant.

Montana Virtually Appreciates Teachers

Many parents are realizing just how much our teachers do everyday for our kids. In Montana, the kids and parents wanted to show encouragement and support on Teacher Appreciation Day, so they surprised their teachers during a conferencewide Zoom call. In turn, the teachers had a surprise of gratitude and motivation for the parents who have been partnering in the education of their children on a new level during the COVID-19 distance learning environment.

A New Life for Big Lake's Lodge

The Big Lake Youth Camp lodge has served through 58 winters of 10–25 feet of snow, hosting thousands of campers who've made decisions for Jesus around indoor "campfires." The bones of the lodge, nearly 60 years old, are now failing under the weight of winter snows. The rest of the old building has developed wrinkles, no longer meeting the required safety codes for a Mountain Lodge. Plans for a new lodge have been drawn and more than $1 million of the required $2.5 million dollars has been raised. Construction should be completed in time for hundreds of campers to come to camp in 2021.
