August 2013 Newsletter

Summer is a slow time for teaching, which has made it the perfect time to work on music projects and some of this behind the scenes promotional stuff. I had no idea how much work this takes! It's fun, though, and super educational.

In the midst of that work I released a new single and scored an amazing gig with Sandra Bernhard. Yes, REALLY! Read more about all of that below. I've included a free download with this newsletter as well. Read on, and as always, thank you for your support!
I released my first single, "Go," last month. The response has been really great! I've already gotten some good radio and podcast attention and I continue to work at getting it more. Thanks to Yeast RadioThe Justin Wayne Show, The Bugcast and OutRadio for the lovin'.

You can download the song for whatever price you like (even free) from Bandcamp, but if you'd rather download from iTunes, Amazon, Google Play or just listen to it on Spotify, I ain't gonna be mad atcha. This is song is for you.

You can really help by telling a friend about the song, writing a review on iTunes or Amazon, or posting it on your social media outlets if you haven't already. I'd really appreciate the support!
Tentative Armor
I'll be performing an updated version of my solo show, Tentative Armor, at Judson Memorial Church on Saturday, September 28. This will be the last time you'll be able to see it in this intimate setting as I am in the process of moving it to a larger venue in the Spring. Judson Church is a historic and truly magical place. I'll be sharing the proceeds from the $10 ticket price with them. Click here for ticket info.
Sandra Bernhard
Yes, yes, YES! I am joining Sandra Bernhard as her pianist for five shows on her tour! I am still pinching myself. I vividly remember watching Without You I'm Nothing on the big screen back in 1989 in Houston and having my mind thouroughly blown by her. Little did I know that a mere 24 years (ahem) later I would be joining her on stage. All the showdates are here, as are all of my other gigs. Let me know if you can make it to any of those shows. I'd love to say hello!
In other news...
My band, ATTACK.WAV is in the studio recording new music and have a show at Otto's booked in November. I continue my podcast, though a bit sporadically. I just put up an interview with Leah Coloff, who is the cellist you hear on "Go," and a righteous performer in her own right.

As my thanks for your support, here's a free download of an early version of "Mango" I just ran across a couple weeks ago. It sounds like I had the percussion programming down at this point but was still working out chord progressions. I didn't keep any of this except for that rhythmic figure toward the end. If you missed my April show at Judson, here's the video of "Mango." Let me know if you have trouble with the download, I may need to find a better way to do these things.

Finally- thank you thank you thank you for your support and your energy. It has taken a long time to get myself ready to walk through the fear of embarking on this artistic path that often feels audacious and somehow self-centered. So many of you have given tremendous support and encouragement and I thank you immensely.
