Dear Dig-In Supporters,

Less than twelve months ago the idea of a community-supported greengrocer was just that. Now, thanks to the support and enthusiasm of all our members, supporters and volunteers Dig-In Bruntsfield is well on its way to putting fruit and veg back on the high street. If you've bought a share, delivered postcards or just spread the word to friends and family - thank you.

Monthly Volunteer Drop-Ins

Starting shortly after the New Year we are planning Monthly Volunteer Drop-Ins. These will be a chance to meet the folk behind Dig-In and find out how you can get involved as a volunteer and how you and your community might benefit.

These will be held on Sundays 4-5pm on January 12, February 9 and March 9 at our premises at 119 Bruntsfield Place (between the Post Office and the Chocolate Tree). See more information here: http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dig-in-volunteer-drop-in-tickets-9845131052

Also, welcome to some of our wonderful new volunteers: Emily, Carol, Jan, Amanda and Gina, who are contributing in various much needed ways.

Share Offer Update

Following our successful launch event in November, the Dig-In volunteer elves have been busy behind the scenes, processing and sending out share certificates to all our lovely new members. So far our share offer has raised over £10,000 through the sale of over 400 shares bought by over 100 new members from Bruntsfield and beyond (we now have members as far a field as York, London and Australia) signing up to invest in the community. This is a phenomenal amount and we are well on our way to reaching our target of £30,000. We can't thank you, our supporters, enough; we hope Santa's good to you! Please keep spreading the word and if you have been meaning to become a member please complete the online form now, here: http://www.diginbruntsfield.co.uk/shareoffer/

Dig-In has been overwhelmed by the amount of interest and support we have received and we can't wait to open as a community-owned greengrocer next year in the heart of Bruntsfield. Money raised by the sale of shares will allow Dig-In to provide the community with a source of good quality, fresh fruit and vegetables, bringing us all closer to the food we eat everyday.

Fundraising HQ

It's been a busy couple of weeks since the launch of the Dig-In share offer. If you haven't visited yet, we're open most evenings and weekends; come in and say hello to our volunteers, find out more about our plans and of course buy your shares in Dig-In.

We've already had the pleasure of meeting some of you at the Bruntsfield Christmas Night, where we were able to open late along with other fabulous local traders.

In the new year we'll have lots of exciting news about events taking place and we hope you'll be able to join us and get involved.

Christmas Fruit and Veg

It wouldn't be Christmas without sprouts and next year we hope you'll be able to find them and lots of your favourite Christmas fruit and vegetables at Dig-In. In the meantime, here's some virtual veg with a selection of some of our favourite Christmas recipes including roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots and a vegetarian main course, not forgetting the sprouts!

We hope that whatever you're cooking this year you have a wonderful festive season, with plenty of friends, family and good food! Thanks again to everyone who's contributed to making Dig-In a success this year. It's inspiring to see what a community can do if we choose to take control of just a small part of our food system. We look forward to welcoming you in the new year!

With thanks

The Dig-In team
