Veg Bags For Sale

This Saturday marks a monumental moment for Dig-In, we're selling our very first vegetables!

The team has been preparing and packing veg bags that will be on sale to the public this Saturday (March 15th) from 11am-3pm. The bags have a variety of vegetables and all include fresh onions, kale, potatoes, carrots and cauliflower.

All of veg has been bought from Whitmuir Farm in Lamancha, near West Linton. The potatoes are from Dundee, carrots from Coupar Angus, the onions, cauliflower and mushrooms are all English and the kale is from Whitmuir.

The idea of the bags is not only to provide fresh vegetables, but to get your feedback. We want to know what you thought of the produce, the amount of veg in each bag and what you did with the contents. So we will be placing feedback forms in the bags and welcome your comments.

Twenty-five bags will go on sale and available on a first come first serviced basis. The bags are limited to one bag per customer due to limited stock so get down quick!

Don't forget, we've extended our Soup Saturdays into March as well so will still be giving out free soup to those who stop by.

Volunteering Opportunities Still Available

As we gear up to open the shop, it will soon be time for all you volunteer painters and carpenters out there to get on board and help out! Other positions we are seeking help with include organising & implementing processes in the run up to the shop opening as well as planning the opening event itself. We are also seeking a helper interested in food sourcing with some skills in accounts/IT to help research a veg box/pre-ordering scheme.

Even more exciting than that, it's also time to sign up for volunteer staffing the shop! If you plan on getting your hands on those tatties while caring for our Bruntsfield customers, email us at volunteer@diginbruntsfield.co.uk.

Dig-In Speak At Scran Salon

Last week, Caroline, John and Gina attended the second Scran Salon at Hemma Bar to mingle with the food lovers of Edinburgh and spread the Dig-In word. You can listen to an interview with Caroline (courtesy of the fantastic Edinburgh Common Good blog) and read about the evening on our latest blog.

Scran Salon is an informal meet up for anyone with a passion for food! It brings together business owners, chefs, producers, writers, promoters, and enthusiastic eaters from across Edinburgh’s vibrant food scene.

Thank You

We have to say a massive thank you to our friends at Union of Genius for their support. Union of Genius brought some of their delicious soup (and fantastic van!) to help us out at one of our soup Saturdays back in February. Please check out their website and stop by the cafe on Forrest Road, Edinburgh to try out their soup delights.

We're always grateful for support we receive and actively encourage supporting other local businesses. If you have an idea or want to link up with Dig-In, we want to hear from you. Email info@diginbruntsfield.co.uk and say hello!

Stocks and Supplies Update

Our stocks and supplies team have been incredibly busy doing their research and gathering information from many suppliers in order to start deciding what will be stocked at Dig-In.

Aside from the paperwork though, the team has also been on a couple of research trips. They have visited Whitmuir Farm and tomorrow will be up at the early hour of 6.30am to visit a fruit market in Edinburgh to learn more about supply chains and pricing.

We look forward to stocking our shelves with Scottish produce from Saladworx, Mara and Cairnsmhor and will have a fuller update of suppliers very soon.

Our shareholder numbers and target totals are creeping up ever closer to the £30,000 target.

We have now raised £26,100 and have over 200 shareholders. A huge thank you and welcome to our newest shareholders. Please continue to spread the word about Dig-In. We are so close and need your support to get us there.
