Hotel Renovation on the Forefront
T
he Urbana City Council gave initial consideration to a redevelopment agreement to renovate the Urbana Landmark Hotel and reopen it as a Tapestry Collection by Hilton boutique hotel and conference center. Come and enjoy free coffee, conversation, and camaraderie with Mayor Diane Wolfe Marlin and members of the City of Urbana staff. The latest CWM will be held at Salt & Light Ministries, 1819 Philo Rd., Urbana, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., July 25, 2019.

Mayor Announces UPD Leadership
Mayor Diane Wolfe Marlin has selected Urbana Police Department Interim Chief Bryant Seraphin to serve as the next Chief of the Urbana Police Department. Seraphin has served as Interim Police Chief since the retirement of Chief Sylvia Morgan in August 2018 and has been a member of the department for over 24 years.In addition, Urbana Police Department Interim Deputy Chief Robert Fitzgerald has been named to the Deputy Chief position. Get Down to Urbana's Downtown Get Down July 27
Urbana is the place to be this summer 2019! The City of Urbana Public Arts Program, Urbana Park District, 40 North 88 West Champaign County Arts Council, The Urbana Free Library, and the Urbana Business Association are proud to present the Downtown Get Down, a downtown events series that will take place this month on July 27 in the heart of Downtown Urbana with live music and festivities on Main and Race Streets.
An Anniversary Celebration
Come on out Saturday, July 6, 2019! Founded in 1874, The Urbana Free Library has proudly served the people of Urbana ever since. Help us celebrate 145 years of Library service! Come listen to live music from Almost "A" Trio, explore a selection of documents and items from the Library's history presented by the Champaign County Historical Archives, play a library-themed BINGO game, enjoy anniversary crafts, food and refreshments, and more!
THINK URBANA!
Free and open to the public. Join the City of Urbana and Urbana Business Association for a tour of the South Ridge neighborhood. Come learn all about this Think Urbana eligible neighborhood. Tour will begin at 3:30 p.m. Drinks and snacks will follow.
  • South Ridge offers a quiet community feel all while being a quick walk, bike, or ride away from local amenities. Multi-use paths provide homeowners with opportunities for biking and walking within the neighborhood. 
  • Think Urbana lowers the cost of new residential construction. Participants in the program can save 55% off property taxes on their new house in Urbana during the first five years and pay no sales tax on construction materials.
The MLK Jettie Rhodes Neighborhood Day was a great success. This mural was a result of the work of Lisa Kessler, a local artist, said Lashaunda Cunningham, the granddaughter of Jettie Rhodes. "The square wood panels were painted by kids at last year's event. Then, the Urbana Park District allowed me to paint a portrait mural of Dr. King, using the kids' paintings as a background," Kessler said. This mural is located in King Park.
Poet Laureate
The City of Urbana’s Mayor’s Office and the Urbana Arts & Culture Program are proud to announce the inaugural Poet Laureate in City of Urbana history, Will Reger. His one-year term begins immediately. For more, go here. The City invites the public to a reception to celebrate inaugural Poet Laureate, Will Reger, on Wednesday, July 10th from 5pm-6:30pm in Analog Wine Bar in Urbana.

The Urbana Arts and Culture Program and The Urbana Free Library in partnership with Kanopy will be screening another movie for Urbanalove Summer Movie Nights on July 11th at Broadway Food Hall, featuring Show Cats beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Plus, mark your calendars  for July 17 for another Urbanalove Summer Movie Night that will feature Hearts Beat Loud at the Boneyard Creek Crossing and will start at sundown. Join the City of Urbana Public Arts Program and Market at the Square for another Art at the Market! Starting at 8 a.m., participate in family-focused art making, together with bubbles, chalk art, and more! The Urbana Park District's Neighborhood Nights is in full-swing, featuring the very best local musicians, free popcorn and lemonade, fun activities and quality time with family and friends. Neighborhood Nights is a weekly happening that lasts until early August. Go here for more.
Firefighter Candidates
The City of Urbana Fire Department welcomes two new members to our team: Firefighter Candidates Calvin Kerns and Austin Upton. The Urbana Fire Department serves our community by providing effective emergency response services and quality prevention and education programs that will minimize the loss of life and property.
