Plan for Severe Weather
Make a plan today. Your family may not be together if a disaster strikes, so it is important to know which types of disasters could affect your area. Know how you’ll contact one another and reconnect if separated. Establish a family meeting place that’s familiar and easy to find. Go to our website for more.
During an emergency, alert and warning officials need to provide the public with life-saving information quickly. Wireless Emergency Alerts, made available through the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System infrastructure, are just one of the ways public safety officials can quickly and effectively alert and warn the public about serious emergencies.
Most do not know that weather sirens are for outside alerts. You may not hear them if you are inside your home or another building. Please download the FREE FEMA Weather App for your device, and/or consider purchasing an All-Weather radio.

Arbor Day Foundation Names Urbana Tree City USA and Growth Award Winner
Urbana was named a 2018 Tree City USA and awarded the Tree City Growth Award by the Arbor Day Foundation.
Urbana has one of the most diverse urban forests in the Midwest, and values all of its trees not only as environmental and aesthetic treasures, but also as part of its history. The City takes great pride in being the first community in Illinois to receive the Tree City USA designation in 1976-the program's inaugural year-and has maintained the Tree City designation every year since. To read more about this exciting award, the generous donations that have been given to sponsor more trees, and the upcoming publication Under the Canopy, click here.
