This month I have two solo exhibitions, Microtopia and Accumulation in adjacent galleries at Leedy-Voulkos Art Center through May 26. Tonight's weather is going to be perfect for First Friday in Kansas City, hope to see you there!
Big Botany: Conversations with the Plant World is on display at the Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence, KS through July 15, 2018. View the phenomenal exhibition catalog here. It's such an honor to have work included in this extraordinary exhibition.
A Look at Lichen on Earth Day, KU's McGregor Herbarium Collection Manager, Caleb Morse and I co-hosted an event at the Spencer focused on lichens. We shared specimens collected near and far and invited attendees to take an even closer look at these incredible organisms through microscopes and magnifying glasses. We concluded the gathering with a brief walk through Marvin Grove to explore the 12 kinds of lichen growing near the museum and discuss the various ways lichens impact the natural world. Special thanks to Caleb for his expertise and collaboration, and to Stephen Goddard for his insightful gallery talk before. It was a memorable day spent in great company.
Copies of Shelia Strawn's Lichen Study Guide for Oklahoma and Surrounding States are currently available for purchase. If you have an interest in learning more about these symbiotic organisms and live near Oklahoma, this guide is an excellent starting place.
And finally, my immersive installation An Unnatural History will be exhibited at the Art Center of the Ozarks, in Northwest Arkansas, August and September of 2018! More details will be announced soon.
