So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Praying With Jesus: Lead Us Not
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Matt 6.13

This is possibly the oddest part of the Lord’s prayer. Certainly there is nothing odd about the desire to avoid temptation, but the way the Lord puts it is strange. You could argue that the suggestion is that the Father might Himself lead us into it. It’s a prayer asking Him not to, as if He might. We know that God is neither tempted by evil nor tempts anyone. So why would we ask Him not to do something He has no intention of doing?

There is also a link between the two clauses. Possibly deliverance from evil is the same thing as not being led into temptation. If that is so, it would mean that the primary prayer for deliverance from evil is the deliverance from our own evil, that is, what we are tempted by.

I don’t suppose we are very far from all kinds of temptation So this again is intended to be a daily prayer. Moment by moment we need His grace to 'foil the tempter’s power’.

Reminder - Gift Aid
Anyone putting in an offering to be treated as Gift Aid needs to put their name on the envelope and mark it as Gift Aid. If you have been given a reference number please write that on too as otherwise the Church can’t claim the tax back on your donation.

How to Stretch Your Offering without giving more!
Seems too good to be true but there is a way – read on!
2 Corinthians 9:7
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Giving is part of our worship to The Lord. Everything we have comes from His blessing on our lives. Many don’t realise that if you are a tax payer the money you give as an offering can be made to go further if you put it in an envelope or when you donate online and mark it as Gift Aid
It is a really good way to increase what the Church gets without it costing YOU anything more!
The Church is able to claim back the tax you paid on the amount you gave!
Example
Amount  With Gift Aid
(Tax Relief) your Offering becomes
£3  £3.60
£5  £6
£10  £12
£20  £24
£50  £60
£100  £120

In other words the Church gets an EXTRA £1 from HMRC for every £5 you put in!

 How To Set It Up
  1. Speak to Peter Wallerstein and let him know you want your regular offerings to be treated as Gift Aid.
  2. Once he knows you are interested then all it takes is a simple signature on a form along with your tax code.
  3. Only requirement is that you are a UK Tax Payer.

Fellowship
Though we have started back with Sunday gatherings, they are only a shadow of what church can be. I am aware that there are elements of our worship which are not yet as we would wish them to be. We are still unable to sing, although new research seems to show that it is volume that is the critical risk factor in singing. Fellowship is also limited. So we would like to encourage the church to connect with one another. Here a reminder of the Phase 3 guidance:

You are be able to meet outdoors with larger groups up to 4 different households at a time – but with no more than 15 people in total, and with physical distancing in place.
You can also meet people from up to 2 other households at a time indoors, but with no more than 8 people in total and with physical distancing

So two encouragements:
1. With this in mind, you are able to invite some people for fellowship in your home.
2. Under the rules for churches, we can have larger gatherings mid-week. If you are interested in gathering for fellowship mid-week, please let Chris know.

Lebanon Appeal
Please see this appeal from Impact 25:40, the relief arm of AoG. This Sunday (23rd), there will be an opportunity to give to the appeal.
AOG is launching an urgent appeal to get desperately needed help to those affected by the disaster in Lebanon. With over 150 people dead, 5000 injured and an estimated 300,000 homeless, the needs are huge. AOG GB already has a proven partnership with Churches in Lebanon which means you can be assured that the money you give will be well used and will benefit those in greatest need. The challenge facing Lebanon is huge but together we can help make a difference.
To give this Sunday, please place your gift in one of the white envelopes provided on the Offerings Table and it will go to the Lebanon Appeal.

Pray for The Maldives
Coral mining and rises in sea temperatures have killed much of the coral that is the foundation of these islands. The 2004 tsunami and the 2008/9 economic downturn demonstrated how fleeting life on these islands could be; pray that this, together with the current situation, would cause many to seek eternal assurance obtainable only through Christ.
The Maldivians are still among the least evangelized on earth. Neither mission work nor Christian literature has ever been allowed. Islam is the only authorized religion. Paradoxically, the government denies the existence of Christianity among Maldivians while arresting those who do believe. The perception of Christianity is so bad (largely due to Western media and tourist immorality) that political opponents use the term “Christian” to slander one another. Pray for the true name and nature of Jesus to be made known in this nation. Pray that the state’s contradictions and heavy-handedness toward Christianity would generate great curiosity.

Coronavirus Update
As we are in level 3 of lockdown easing, we are required to practice social distancing when we go out and to wear masks in all shops. If anyone is feeling anxious about going out and about after being at home for four months, particularly if you've been shielding, be encouraged that God is faithful and trustworthy.
