Do to others as you would have them do unto you....Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you... For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
Luke 6:31,36-38 NIV

Last year, we delved into the book of Daniel as a way of understanding our own exile from mainstream life in secular Britain. Fortunately, the Bible also records the way back from exile as well. So in the hope that we too shall not remain in exile forever, I’d like us to dive into the book of Ezra. Ezra is not an easy book. It contains genealogies, inventories and official correspondence, follows a sometimes confusing chronology, and celebrates some very unfashionable views. But Ezra himself is a huge, though under-appreciated, character. Some regard him as the father of post-exilic Judaism, second only to Moses in greatness. Tradition attributes him as the author of Ezra-Nehemiah and Chronicles and several extra-biblical books. He is a possible candidate for the editor of the Torah itself. And he is credited with establishing the body that later became the Sanhedrin. Let’s see what the church can learn from him as we hope to return from our own exile.

Summary of New Covid Rules from 22 September.
You should not meet anyone from outside your household socially indoors in your home or their home (except for extended households).
No more than 6 people in total (from a maximum of 2 households) may meet at any time in public settings (except for exceptions).
Places of worship are exempt, and so it is still possible for up to 50 people to meet for public worship with social distancing. Life Church Auditorium can cater for up to 40.

These rules are in place for 6 months and subject to reviews every 21 days.
Please see Scottish Government
  website (www.gov.scot) for full details.

Pray for Pakistan
The notorious blasphemy law imposes the death penalty on anyone who defames Mohammed, and life in prison for anyone who defiles a Quran. Extremists routinely use the law – as a pretext for underlying personal motives of revenge or envy – to falsely accuse innocents and stir up enough religious frenzy to generate mob justice. Half of those charged under the blasphemy law have been Muslim.
Pray for outreach from the Christian church in Pakistan to change. There is a degree of freedom to talk about the Gospel but there are huge cultural barriers between Christians and Muslims. Pray for Christians to be impassioned and equipped to share their faith and to answer the claims and questions of Muslims.
Pray that the churches would know how to integrate Muslim converts, some of whom are ex-militants, instead of loosing them as is happening at the moment.
Pray for the young people in Pakistan. Only 40% of children are enrolled in state schools. In rural areas children have to deal with child labour, bonded labour and forced marriage.
