From the Farm
Mark your calendars for Holiday Celebrations with Cheese at Yellow Springs Farm-- Sunday, Nov 24, and Saturdays, December 14, 21, and 28-- hours are 12 noon to 4pm all days. This is a great time to visit the Farm with family and friends for cheese platter order, purchase holiday gifts, cheese tasting, and just a fun, festive atmosphere. We will also be here Christmas Eve from 10 am to 1 pm ready to assist you with last minute needs and order pickup.
Thanksgiving is next week--it is a celebration, but also a time of reflection in our Farm life. The reality is hard work in all weather, economic challenges to produce profits to support our staff and the animals, and our quest to make our best cheeses yet. We are inspired by and grateful for our loyal CSA members and CSA host sites around the region; the chefs who use or products and make them taste even better with original recipes; local retailers who make a special effort to keep YSF in market baskets; and for eaters everywhere who seek YSF products and share our love for delicious, sustainable, artisanal food.
We always thank the goats who make the milk we rely on-- it all starts in the pasture. We could not have come through the year without 2013's hard-working helpers who share our passions, goals, and goats- Sheryl, Maria, Julia, Bill, Sharon, Tess, Spring, Jen, Katya, Roger, Barbara, Chase, Lauren, John, Alexa, Judy, Bob, Casey, David, Ashton, Nick and all Kimberton Waldorf School student artisans, and everyone who bottle-fed a kid, filled a bucket, cleaned a pen, and offered a hand -- you are special-- thank you so very much!
In case you missed our last newsletter, we are thrilled to announce our First Place award at the American Dairy Goat Association's annual Product Competition in Asheville, NC in October. We worked on the Vanilla yogurt recipe and packaging for almost two years, so it feels great to see it achieve national recognition. If you would like to taste yogurt, please visit the Farm, or find us at the West Chester Growers Market on select Saturdays, or purchase our plain and vanilla yogurts at Metropolitan Bakery on 19th St in Philadelphia, and at Kimberton Whole Foods in Kimberton.
The 2014 Cheese CSA enrollment season is underway. Sign up now for one of our 14 pickup sites, including new pickup sites at Capogiro Gelato in University City and St. Peter's Bakery near Elverson, PA. We offer a cheese journal gift book to all who purchase a share by December 1-- thank you, "early birds".
With warm wishes for Thanksgiving!
