Happy Arbor Day and welcome to ArbNet’s first quarterly newsletter! We are celebrating our five year anniversary today! To recognize this milestone we are offering a new capacity building grant to our members. All arboreta that are accredited through the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program as of Sept. 1, 2016 are eligible (there's still time to get your arboretum accredited before the closing date!). We have an updated accreditation application and we invite our accredited arboreta to pursue an upgrade to a higher level this year. We are also offering accredited arboreta a free ArbNet 5th anniversary tree label. Request one today to commemorate one of your trees to celebrate your accreditation and five years of ArbNet. We will be planting several trees at The Morton Arboretum to celebrate Arbor Day and ArbNet's 5th anniversary. We hope you will plant a tree for Arbor Day too!
The Global Trees Campaign (GTC) a joint initiative between BGCI & FFIto safeguard the world's threatened tree species. GTC works with partners around the world to build capacity for tree conservation and carry out practical conservation projects. Our latest Red List publication highlights that half of the world's magnolias are threatened with extinction! Find out which threatened trees are absent from botanic garden and arboreta collections in our global survey of ex situ collections. Check out the GTC website for the latest news from our projects and don't forget to follow us on Twitter! @globaltrees
