The winter programme up to Christmas is now almost complete - we are still trying to sort out a few things including a pool session. The programme so far is;

Tuesday & Thursday evenings 18:30 - 20:00
"Non-paddling" club sessions 6:30 - 8 pm. The content of each session will be notified a week or so in advance. Requests/suggestions are welcome!

Saturday mornings 10:00 - 12:00
Club paddling sessions. These are generally uncoached but there is the possibility of running some star award training subject to demand.

Sunday 25th October 2015 - River Washburn Release run by MWBC
It is our turn to manage the Washburn release and we need lots of volunteers to help out with collecting paddling fees, car park management and running the food tent. Contact Chris, Trevor or Bob for more information.

Friday 30th October 2015, 18:30-21:00 - After Dark Paddle & Party
After dark Halloween paddle at the lake with prizes for best fancy dress and spookiest boat decorations. For those of you using club boats, the Thursday evening session on 29th October will be your chance to get your boat decorated ready for the paddle.

Sunday 15th November 2015 - River Ure Trip
Club paddle from Hack Falls to Sleningford Watermill, 6 km of Grade 2 with a couple of bits of Grade 3 at Hack Falls and Sleningford Rapids, both of which can be easily portaged. Suitable for most paddlers unless in flood. See noticeboard at club for more details or contact Bob Finch.

Sunday 6th December 2015 - River Wharfe Trip
Club paddle from Linton to Barden Bridge, 10 km of Grade 1/2 with a couple of harder bits - Linton Falls (Grade 4 right at the start) and Appetreewick Falls (Grade 3) both of which can be easily portaged. Those wanting a shorter trip can launch at Burnsall. The full trip is suited to paddlers with some previous moving water experience, the shorter trip is suitable for most paddlers. See noticeboard at club for more details or contact Bob Finch.

Friday 26th December 2015 - Matlock Paddle
Short paddle from Artists Corner to Cromford ahead of the annual charity raft race. Run the gauntlet of flour bombs and water cannon fired by the raft race crowds, shoot Cromford Weir (big and scary but really easy and safe!) then watch (and laugh) as the rafts do the same. See noticeboard at club for more details or contact Bob Finch.

The programme for the period after Christmas will be added as soon as it is available.

Also just a reminder that club boats, paddles, helmets and spraydecks are available for club members to borrow for trips - contact Chris or Trevor for prices and more information.

Well done to the B team last night as they got their season underway with 3 wins (one by default because we had no opponents), and one loss. Goals coming from McKenzie Hyde (1) , Andy Hyde (1), Tom Lenton (1) and Sam Wright (3). The first game saw Manvers win Malton & Norton 2-1 and saw Sam receive a green card for what the referee saw as an illegal push, after the game he decided to cancel out the green card. The second game saw Manvers play East Yorks Otters, after a hard fought game they unfortunately lost the game 2-1. The third game for Manvers was scheduled to be against York Uni, but unfortunately they didn't turn up so Manvers won that game by default 3-0. The final match was the last match of the night, after McKenzie caught Kingston D saying that they were gonna 'take each player out' the team knew what to expect in terms of their tactics. After finding this information out Manvers were able to win this game 4-3. Most notable in this game was that Sam had been able to improve his shooting after wasting shots in the first and second games, but in the final game managed to chip in with 3 goals. Would like to say a massive thank you to all the supporters for making yourselves heard when the team scored and for displaying the flag to let everyone know who you were supporting!

The club had an enjoyable day out on the River Derwent on Sunday with 19 paddlers of all ages and abilities making the 5 mile trip from Darley Bridge to Matlock. After a cold and cloudy start the sun came out and we were blessed with glorious autumn sunshine as we made our way downriver.

The low water levels (0.35m on the EA gauge at Matlock) made this the ideal trip for the group which included a large proportion of first timers on moving water. After the easy, flat first section the excitement picked up with the rapids under the railway bridge and the Town Bridge in Matlock.

All in all a great day out - a pleasant paddle through beautiful countryside in good company. Well done to all who took part.

Don't forget the next trip on the River Ure on Sunday 8th November!

Well to all of the club paddlers who successfully completed their FSRT training course at the lake on Saturday, braving the weather and the distinctly chilly water.

In no particular order:

David Robinson
Alan Bartrop
Angela Davies
Aidan Wilding
Barbara Smith
Mark Toller
Tony Morris
John Clark
Jan Cassidy
Mathew Rodgers

Just a reminder that we need volunteers to come along and help with the River Washburn release on Sunday 25th October 2015.There are a lot of jobs that need doing on the day;
  • Collecting money from people wishing to paddle
  • Managing car parking
  • Safety inspection at the start of the day before paddlers are allowed to run the river
  • Running the food tent
 If you are willing to help contact Trevor, Chris or Bob for more information.
